2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT

2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT

By 2007 Shelby fever had reached an all time high and there was a massive public demand for the used Shelby GT-H's from Hertz.  Ford and Shelby decided it was time to offer the car to the public and sold it through Ford dealers as the Ford Shelby GT.  The Shelby GT was really the sweet spot in terms of performance.  It was not as insanely powerful as the super-high-output GT500 with the supercharged Ford GT engine and special enough to really be better than the Mustang GT.  The V8 is strong, with a great exhaust roar, and it feels plenty powerful for the street.  All the cars wore metallic silver Le Mans stripes, were available in both white or black exterior colors.

For consignment, a black version of the Mustang Shelby GT.  Sporting a mere 15,264 actual miles, and is just the way it left the factory.  Wearing Katzkin leather coverings for the interior, and rare in and of itself being 1 of 2,876 black manual transmission coupes built, this is one for the hardcore Mustang and Shelby collectors.  Some Shelby magic worked on the drivetrain, with a dyno proven rating of 457hp thanks to the aid of the Kenne Bell TS Series supercharger, this snake is poised to strike.

Exterior
Factory applied deep dark Black paint with satin silver decal stripes come together to create the menacing look for this muscle car.  Styling queues can be seen from way back in 1965 with its grille shape, rear tail light configuration and door hockey stick cove.  But with the Shelby GT package things get more dressed up with a stainless grille insert and a more aggressive front fascia.  An added hood scoop and hood pins, direct from the Shelby camp, grace the aggressively styled hood and matte finished side view mirrors, and some minimalistic but clean badging complete the fastback look.  More retro throwback is seen on the tail of the car with the 3 bar vertical tail lights, faux GT gas cap and SHELBY in chrome block lettering all with a duck tail spoiler hovering above.  20-inch polished Shelby America wheels are wrapped by 255/35ZR20 rubber from the 21st week of 2018.

Interior
Black Katzkin leather comes together to make up the upholstery for the front buckets and rear 2 plus 2 seats.  These sport the cobra and Shelby GT embroidered in the headrests and have high backs with lots of tuck and roll inserts and smooth bolsters.  The seats are showing little to no wear and the driver's bucket is powered, as are the windows and locks.  A very simple dash houses another queue from days past in the form of the dual circular embedded instruments behind the steering wheel, although the 65 version utilized a horizontal speedometer.  An AM/FM/CD player, AC, and traction control are installed for your convenience and listening pleasure.  The dash upper is satin faux aluminum and houses eyeball vents and above are some extra gauges for fuel pressure, oil temp and oil pressure.  Extra gauges are also on the drivers A-pillar where we can monitor water temp and boost pressure.   A chrome armed Hurst shifter sits in a center console that makes its way past the buckets to the rear 2+2's.  In the dash rode to the top we note a small digital screen for the stereo system.  Nice clean black carpeting covers the floors and is very clean.

Drivetrain
A 4.6 Liter, 3 Valve, V8 with EFI mixed with a few tricks from up Shelby's sleeve make a tire shredding 457 Dyno proven horsepower thanks to the addition of a Kenne Bell TS Series polished supercharger.  Attached to the back is a Tremec 3650 5-speed manual transmission that puts power rearward to an 8.8” 3.55 TracLoc rear axle.  All clean under this hood with JBA headers snaking their way to the undercarriage.

Undercarriage
No rust, just miles of steel finished in the factory greenish gray primer as far as the eye can see.  While the Shelby GT got the same independent coil spring front and 3 link with coil springs  and panhard bar rear suspension as the standard Mustang GT, a 1" drop was added by Shelby for a more aggressive look.  Power disc brakes all around and the exhaust has been upgraded to a stainless Borla system.  All clean and all green down here.

Drive-Ability
A quick starter, great acceleration and racecar-esque like handling was experienced in the test drive.  All functions were working just fab but I was forced to keep my test drive short so as to not rack up unnecessary miles on this collectible.

A nicely presenting, and powerful running Shelby GT in menacing black with silver stripes,  low miles and a very nice Katzkin Leather Interior.  High tech looks for the interior and some throwbacks all buttoned up for this time capsule right out of 2007. Super…charged!
