2003 Ford Mustang GT Convertible

2003 Mustang GT Convertible

The launch of the 1994 model year of the Ford Mustang was arguably the moment that the vehicle propelled itself into the era of "modern cars".  After years of anticipation that had fans eagerly awaiting the next generation, the fourth generation, internally known by the code SN95, finally debuted.  The shift away from the boxiness of the Foxbody marked a deliberate transformation into contemporary design.  The 1999 model year brought about a mid-cycle refresh just in time for the new millennium.  The 1999-2004 Mustangs are referred to as "New Edge'', which was Ford's global design language during that time period.  Though still technically SN95 models, some refer to them solely as much.

For consignment, a New Edge Mustang GT right out of the 2003 model year with lots of upgrades like BBK headers and cold intake, an aftermarket MAC exhaust, Flowmaster series 40 mufflers, a Pro 5.0short throw shifter, TracLoc rear, Mach 1000 stereo system, ZL glow gages, and blackout covers for the head and tail lights.  AND its a convertible!  Always garaged for the 13 years of consigner's ownership and showing a mere 43,428 title verified miles on the odometer.

Exterior
Miles deep Tropic Green Metallic paint, with fog lamps, blacked out front headlights, rear decklid spoiler, a sporty hood scoop, and a very raked windscreen have this car moving fast forward when it's standing still.   Factory paint work is noted and shows in the deep end of the pool over the sharp edges, neoprene bumpers and smooth sides.  The rear quarter panel scoops, and the iconic mustang side hockey stick cove are exemplary of speed.  Up top, a like new black canvas convertible top with a glass rear window lowers with the touch of a button. Th tail lights also have the menacing blackout coverings.  17” stock chromed and polished  wheels adorn all 4 corners, and these are wrapped by 245/45ZR17 rubber which is from the 33rd week of 2010.  Overall, a nice body not showing its 43,428 miles by far.

Interior
Articulated sport dark charcoal leather bucket seats flank a center console that has a spacious glove box/armrest, cup holder, and for the now short throw Pro 5.0 5-speed manual transmission shifter.  These seats are showing some slight leather graceful again with some slight folds but no cracking.  Conveniences include power windows, power mirrors, power locks, a leather wrapped steering wheel with remote controls for easy to use cruise control.  Factory air and a factory AM/FM/CD Mach 1000 stereo will make it that you'll never want to get out and just have your own dance party!  A twin arched dash harkens back to earlier generation Mustangs and displays well with multi-gauge ZL glow instruments in white face cluster in front of the driver, and the glove box and airbag in front of the passenger.  Charcoal carpeting floods the floors and is protected by black Mustang GT embroidered carpeted mats.

Drivetrain
The 4.6Liter SOHC V8 engine with a Tremec T3650 5-speed manual transmission is seen within the near perfect engine bay.  This mill is fuel injected and fuel efficient with a BBK cold air intake to boot,  all the while making 265 tire shredding horses.  This combination sends power back to a Ford 8.8" rear axle weighing in with 3.27 TracLoc gearing.  BBK headers and a Mac exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers are in for the big exhale and rack-off exhaust sound.

Undercarriage
The usual surface rust which is unremarkable and typical for an 03 Mustang is noted but the gray flooring and unibody remains solid.  Power rack and pinion steering, power disc brakes all around, and an independent coil spring front and 4 link with coil spring rear handling suspension are seen.

Drivability
This was a dual test driver car, and my cohort crack decoder and mechanical confidant took the wheel for our cruise.  Here we experienced all working functions, smooth acceleration, quick bias free stopping, and overall tight responsive feel and look from this GT drop top.  We found all functions to be operational and the drive-ability and it's a blast to cruise the test track with the top down and the AC blasting. Yeah it all works!

This 'stang, which is an aero look but still harkening back to its roots with the triple tail lights, inset round interior gauges, and hockey stick coves on the doors, still looks modern even though it is 20 years of age.  All buttoned up and ready to take you off into the sunset...with the top down and a smile across your face.
