2004 Chevrolet SSR

2004 Chevrolet SSR

The Chevrolet SSR, (Super Sport Roadster), was produced in model years 2004-2006. Introduced as a retractable hardtop convertible pickup truck and initially produced with a 5.3 liter 300hp Vortec 5300 V8, the 2005 model had a larger 6.0 liter LS2 Corvette engine producing 390hp. A Tremec six-speed was available for the first time in 2005-06 model years.

Did you know there are 17 bow ties on every 2004 SSR? This design harkens back to the Chevrolet truck designs of the 1940's. Its defining feature being that it has a retractable convertible top which folds down in a mere 30 seconds. Oh, and one more thing, this car is made up of 3,218 parts. Offered for consignment is a 2004 Chevrolet SSR with a custom paint scheme on the exterior and with ebony leather interior. This Sport Roadster checks all the boxes with a 5.3 liter power plant and 4-speed automatic transmission along with that snappy retracting roof. The odometer reads 99,806 title verified actual miles and is ready to go anywhere. A great opportunity to own a rare, unique and collectible truck with car like manners.

Exterior
Beautiful Silver paint covers the rounded VW-esque front end, which is broken up by a single curved integrated bumper flanked by 2 single rounded headlights. The 1940's looking curved horizontal ribbed grille is below, and a pair of rounded fat fenders house the headlights. Medium blue metallic straight rounded steel makes up the roofline which moves downward up front and melts with the bulbous front chromed badged hood emulating the radiator surround of old, but with a new twist. This blue drenches all of the uppers on this truck and works its way down to the upper beltline before giving the hand off to the silver with a red pinstripe delineation marker. Integrated door handles work within rounded paneled steel doors that sport smooth curving rockers at the lowers. Bringing up the rear is another protruding fender that frames the rounded bed lid, under which is a place for the fold down hardtop, and a storage area which is carpeted with oak slat inserts. Bringing up the rear are dual rounded VW style tail lights, that float above an integrated rear bumper, and rounded off silver tailgate. Dual chrome exhaust tips peek out from underneath this bumper. Tinted glass is noted all around, and standard 5 spoke alloy wheels in 19 inch in front and 20 inch in back form complete the corners.

Interior
A swing of the doors and we are in keeping with the round design theme with round trimmings and a horizontal trim on black door panels. Inside we see dual high back leather buckets with power controls. These are in wonderfully aged condition with come folding with age but no rips or tears. They are draped in black and have a metal topped Ultra Silver console racing through them and towards the dash with 3 supporting gauges tucked under the dash. Sitting within this is a machined aluminum panel that houses the power windows, top and traction control toggles as well as the machined gear shift knob. The dash is all clean with a triple gauge cluster and is fronted by an original steering wheel. Centrally located is the factory AM/FM/CD stereo and a 3 some of rounds for the heater and AC controls.

Drivetrain
Under the hood is a well-kept 5.3 liter V8 which can pump out 300hp. It is fed by electronic fuel injection, and backed by a 4L60E 4-speed automatic tranny. A 3.73 posi rear axle is on the way back.

Undercarriage
Perusing underneath, we note some surface rust on the usual suspects, but certainly nothing remarkable. A sturdy frame, floor pans and hangers for the running boards and their hangers is seen. The suspension specs out as independent coil springs up front, and a 5 link coil springs on the rear. Power disc brakes are all around.

Drive-Ability
A super quick starter, good runner, excellent handler and smooth cruiser. This is a well buttoned up vehicle as per the test track with not a single fault to be noted.

If you like retro, like back to the 1940's retro, and reliability with 300 horses, and a convertible option, you may seriously want to look into this one. Nice 2-tone colors, great trimmings and the 1940's rounded design, come together to create an interesting build only on the market for a few years.
