2004 Chevrolet SSR

The Chevrolet SSR, (Super Sport Roadster), was produced in model years 2004-2006. Introduced as a retractable hardtop convertible pickup truck and initially produced with a 5.3 liter 300hp Vortec 5300 V8, the 2005 model had a larger 6.0 liter LS2 Corvette engine producing 390hp. A Tremec six-speed was available for the first time in 2005-06 model years.

Offered for consignment is a 2004 Chevrolet SSR in Redline Red with ebony leather interior. This Sport Roadster checks all the boxes with a 5.3 liter power plant and 4-speed automatic transmission. The odometer reads 29,375 verified actual miles and is ready to go anywhere. A great opportunity to own a rare, unique and collectible truck with car like manners.

Exterior
Factory applied Redline Red, with a few scratches and scuffs looks just splendid with its miles deep smooth finish. A design from an earlier era with a modern twist, shows a bulbous nose with streamlined inserted headlights, flared fenders, a short running board, and a shaved rear gate area. A massive cargo cover protects any cargo, and lifts on a hinged system. An automatic retractable hardtop makes its way automatically from its space right behind the drivers cockpit and raises and lowers in a flash. Taking a gander at this truck, if you are at the correct angle, you may think you are looking at a new VW Beetle. This is not a bad thing, as it is very slippery in the air with nothing to impede the flow of it. 19 and 20-inch wheels are on the corners, all neatly shod in staggered width high performance blackwall rubber and based on the 2004 date code could very well be the factory installed tires.

Interior
Ebony leather with brushed aluminum and a hint of the Redline Red comes together to create a luxurious yet sporty interior that emulates the exterior design of the vehicle. Even the door panels and handle mechanisms look much like the front of the truck. The center console is home to the automatic shifter, power window toggles, the electric top switch, and looks nearly perfect with its padded ebony armrest in a field of Redline for the console topper. Flanking on each side are the comfortable buckets in Ebony leather, and sporting a multi-functional electronic adjustment, with two memory positions, as well as heated driver and passenger seats. Open headrests are framed by chromed roll bar-esque trim that hug the headrests. Various heating and air-conditioning controls as well as the factory AM/FM/CD Changer unit are seen in the dash. Very clean black carpet lines the bed and also floods the passenger compartment floors.

Drivetrain
5.3 liters in LS V8 format pumps out a whopping 300hp. This big power mill is fed by electronic fuel injection and is backed by a 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission and a 10 bolt 3.73 rear with Positraction.

Undercarriage
Underneath we see a peppering of surface rust on the usual suspects, but nothing remarkable as to the structural integrity of this retro-mod. Body hangers are sturdy and we note a slight covering of factory paint overspray on the flooring. Independent coil springs up front and a 5 link with coil springs make up the rear suspension. 4-wheel power disc brakes are on as well. Noted is a factory single exhaust which makes this vehicle roar.

Drive-Ability
This car/truck roared to life and after a nice warmup, took us to our test area where it passed all the challenges. Good acceleration, handling, and a smooth car ride. Also, a smooth shifting transmission and all working functions can be said to be true.

A retro roadster with a bed if you will, all tricked out with modern conveniences and power plant, along with a super smooth drivetrain setup, will allow you to hit the road immediately after driving it away from Classic Auto Mall. Think of it as a modern-day interpretation of a sedan delivery…but in record time!
