1940 Hudson Business Coupe
1940 Hudson Business Coupe
What is there not to like about a Business Coupe? They usually offer great looks, two doors, a spacious trunk, and the rare and cool exclusivity that separates them from the standard model line.
This 1940 Hudson is a wonderfully styled classic that offers great looks and potential. Described as a barn find, this car is a lump of clay awaiting a talented or person with vision to do something with it. The overall shape and style of this Hudson is awesome! Certainly a showstopper fully restored, this Business coupe could be a great project in a couple of ways. A restoration would be grand, but the cost may be prohibitive versus the overall value of the car. Personally, I would rather see the car on the road versus parked in a field, so maybe a hot rod angle could be applied to this Hudson?
With mostly straight steel panels, we see the exterior was “worked” a long time ago as some areas have formed surface rust...particularly on the roof. A new trunk lid has been affixed, and fenders are all there. Chrome bumpers are not affixed, however there is a boatload of parts that came with this car, with some of the missing ones may actually exist within the pile.
Sporting its original metal dash, the stylish dual spear dash configuration is like none other. A central metal vertical ribbed brass colored metal vent/speaker section resides bisects the spears. Newer buckets replace the original bench, and the back seat is nonexistent, making room for the large pullout drawer that could be moved in and out of the trunk so the salesman could access their wares easily. This tray and its parts are unfortunately long gone. No headliner, glass seals are rough and will need replacing. Carpet is also well used, and a more modern automatic shifter has been installed (possibly from a Mustang?)
The factory engine is not in place and a plethora of parts that are not attached come with the sale. The engine is a 351 Windsor V8 and has a replacement AOD 4 speed automatic transmission attached to the rear. As noted, there are plenty of parts that come with this car, and certainly some of those could help with completing the engine, however as to exactly what remains a mystery.
Lots of patina and surface rust is seen under this X frame car. Floor pans may have been replaced as they show no rust. The driveshaft is not attached, and the passenger lower door shows surface rust which is borderline invasive. Body brackets are mostly solid.
Where some may see a money pit, I only see possibilities for this stylish and great looking business coupe. What would you do to get this Business Coupe back on the road?
