1967 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible
1967 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible
In 1966 Mustangs were flying out of Ford showrooms, and Chevrolet needed an answer. After many secret meetings, and covert internal press events, engineers unveiled the official name for what had been known up to this point as XP-836. Camaro was the chosen namesake, and immediately the question became “but what does it mean?”. This question has no official linguistic answer, but as Chevrolet marketing people would answer “It's an animal that eats Mustangs!”
For consignment the beneficiary of a whole new body, a sandblasted undercarriage, new convertible top, and rebuilt 350ci engine with a Turbo 350 automatic transmission, you are good to hop in turn the key, and get better performance than you would have with this car in 1967 off the showroom floor.
Exterior
With a very well done white respray covering the straight steel panels which are minding their gaps very nicely, consigner states all new body panels were used in this redux. While we are at it, add on a new canvas convertible top in black, and let some sun in baby! Simple SS and Camaro badging dot this exterior and are nicely chromed. A chromed rocker strip, nicely restored bumpers, shiny steel wheels with dish trim rings and correct Camaro hub caps wrapped with Goodrich Radials, and ladies and gentlemen, start your engines. Oh, and let's get a little gnarly with a super cool spoiler on the trunk lid, and do not leave out the iconic front wrap around stripe in Black. No hidden headlights here, just pure simple Camaro…Wheels UP!
Interior
Red riding hood, Red riding hood, except it's the seats, carpet, dash and door panels all in their red vinyl glory. Front buckets and a rear bench looking good as new, door panels straight and true, with slight wear on the drivers handle, and red carpet in very nice condition floods the floor. A nice center console sweeps by the buckets and houses the midcentury modern styled gearshift. Front dash also has a few scratches and some wear on the gauge surrounds, but all original. This red is HOT!
Drivetrain
A new and rebuilt 350ci V8 replaces the original engine, but this one is painted correctly and has some added bling in the form of extra chrome. This mill sits within a very clean and restored engine bay and has a rebuilt Turbo 350 automatic transmission which shifts succinctly and smoothly, attached to its backside.
Undercarriage
It has been sandblasted and shows as such, just pure newly painted black and straight un-rusted steel. A front brake conversion is noted changing out discs. A 10-bolt rear handles the power and puts it to the rear tires and makes them smoke! Imagine that?
A super clean, super cool restoration, certainly not purporting to be perfect, but a real driver. Nicely done all around, you can be secure in the thought that all the work has been done on this first years offering classic, and you just get to enjoy it.
