1967 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe

1967 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe

The 1967 Camaro appeared on the scene and the General instantly became a big player in the pony car wars. The Camaro had gotten ahead of the curve and was now a leader in the style department because the car already looked like a car from the early 70's even though that era was still 4 years in the future in October 1966. I can recall the first time I saw a first-generation Camaro in the October 1966 Popular Science new car preview edition. The 1967 Camaro was the star attraction when it debuted in the fall of 1966 and it gave the General an instant classic in the pony car battle.

For consignment a “worked” first generation Camaro. Originally Grenada Gold, a 327ci V8 with a 2-speed power glide transmission, now upgraded for more power and efficiency. This car presents in beautifully restored condition, and is a wonderful example with great paint, chrome, and larger engine. Read ON!

Exterior
With a very well done Red respray covering the straight steel panels which are minding their gaps very nicely, there are minor faults, however really unremarkable. Engine matching badging, a rocker chromed strip, nicely restored bumpers, shiny steel wheels with dish trim rings and correct Camaro hub caps wrapped with Goodrich T/A Radials, and ladies and gentlemen, we are ready to go. Oh, and let's rock and roll a little bit with a slightly raised rear suspension, and a super cool spoiler on the trunk lid, and do not leave out the iconic front wrap around stripe in white. No hidden headlights here, just pure Camaro…Light it UP!

Interior
A swing of the door, and we are met with near showroom door panels in black vinyl, with shiny window cranks, door handles and more badging just in case you forgot what car you are in. We're goin in and plopping ourselves on the pristine black vinyl buckets, which grab you when you have a sit in them. Or grab your high school sweetheart and have some fun on the rear bench, which appears unused to this point, also in black vinyl. The angled dash front has the deeply imbedded circular gauges and knobs, and in the center, we note temp and fan controls, and an aftermarket AM/FM/Cassette neatly mounted within this section of the dash. A trio of round gauges hang from the bottom, and the chromed shifter resides within reach of the driver. Noted are very nice headliner and black carpet showing very little faults and fade. Dream ON!

Drivetrain
Our biggest changes have taken place here where the original 327ci has been replaced with a 1974 era 350ci V8 (according to our crack decoder on the engine label). It sits with the correct Chevrolet Orange painted block, chromed badged valve covers, and a chromed topped air cleaner cover. Even the exhaust manifolds have been blasted and show no rust. All this power is put through a 3-speed automatic tranny, which replaces the original 2-speed power glide. Crank that BABY!

Undercarriage
No issues seen here, just straight unadulterated steel with no surface rust seen. Drum brakes all around, leaf spring rear suspension floats a 10-bolt rear, and independent front suspension braves those fast corners…Scrrrrrrreeetttch!

In all its upgraded restored glory, we have a really nice first year Camaro on our hands. All working, all nicely attended to, and all muscle. “See the USA in your Chevrolet!”
