1966 Ford Fairlane
1966 Ford Fairlane
Maybe it's the slanted headlights or the sense of motion inherent in its swept styling, but there's just something about the 1966 Ford Fairlane that demands attention. Arguably, the most underrated of Detroit's mid 60's super stars, the Fairlane sold well in its day and continues to be a staple of the collector car market. If you're the kind of enthusiast who likes to envision having their name engraved on trophies, take a minute to get to know this killer Fairlane original.
As the story goes, this car was originally purchased outside of Philadelphia where the original owner had it in his possession for many years. After passing away, an ambitious individual saw an opportunity to flip this car, and purchased it, then quickly sold it to the current consigner/owner of the car who took immaculate care if it (as did the original buyer of the car) who happened to live outside of Philadelphia! For consignment a consigner stated 55,339 original mile car, and it looks every inch of it.
A white respray which happened several years ago, covers straight steel panels with amazingly good gaps, and certainly no rust. Original badging, brite work and chrome is in very good condition, as are drip moldings, window moldings, and a stainless rocker trim strip. The beautiful swept back hard top visually glides its way back to the long trunk lid, and the vertical starburst designed tail lights. Up front stacked dual headlamps frame a very nice horizontal ribbed grille with center winged knob moniker. Original wheels have been replaced by Weld polished drilled style wheels with wider radials wrapping them, for a bit safer, and smoother riding car.
All original, and all blue, from the smooth vinyl ribbed with “wood” uppers on the door panels, to the spacious bench with its cloth inserts and vinyl bolsters in between the doors, appearing in very good original condition. A back bench with the same presentation, sits under a very nice original headliner that is pristine. Up front the semi padded blue vinyl dash with no cracking or fading, houses the simple instrument cluster, and glovebox. An aftermarket tachometer rests beside the steering column, and 3 aftermarket gauges hang from underneath the dash, adding monitoring to oil, water and voltage. A Pioneer AM/FM/Cassette also is noted underneath and has a 4 speaker system installed. The original steering wheel awaits willing hands to grab on and give it a twist.
A repainted but original 289ci V8 with its 2-barrel carburetor, topped with a chromed air cleaner and backed by a C4 3-speed automatic transmission. All this within a very clean engine bay.
All black painted and no rust, structurally sound and solid, with a custom dual exhaust, and a 2.80 axle and 4-wheel drums, keep it simple down below.
A great example, of a great designed car in a great year model, in great condition. Ain't life great?
