Big & Little Rascals Race Car

Big & Little Rascals Race Car

The "Little Rascals" was a long running American comedy franchise originally known as Our Gang, created by producer Hal Roach. It began as a series of silent and sound short films produced from 1922 to 1944 and was later syndicated to television in the 1950's under the more familiar title The Little Rascals. It centered around a group of children who were friends and on occasion, adversaries. Well known characters such as Alfalfa, Spanky, and Buckwheat are cultural icons.

For consignment, a pair of Rascals inspired soap box derby type cars built by renowned automotive and motorcycle builder and artist, Bill Eggers.

As Bill puts it, “A cross between the Little Rascals Race Car in the “Kid Mobile Classic” from the short film Auto Antics and Bill Eggers' first car, (circa 1950-1960 at age 10). This vehicle may not win you the $5 for gas and oil, but you will have the ride of your life!”

In Bill's typical whimsical perspective, he describes the trashcan fronted car:

Overflowing with state of the art features, this beauty includes:
Air conditioning
2 Speeds
Antique Horn
Brakes, (maybe?)
Arm Power Steering
1.5 HP Briggs & Stratton Engine
Leather Bench Seating

It even has a working steering wheel–a gear from an old farm tractor gear. This one of a kind race car could be yours!

The other car has a mockup of a V8 engine in front, a crate engine perhaps? The wood, brass, and steel construction is museum quality, with a tufted black vinyl bench seat, a working Briggs and Stratton engine in back, driving the axles through a series of belts and pulleys. Steering is accomplished via a mechanical steering gear with a chain serving as the means by which rotational motion is transferred to the front axle.

Fans of The Little Rascals and classic television, race car fans, as well as television or transportation museums take note of these unique pieces. They are functional but also will make excellent display pieces and the ultimate conversation starters.
