1978 Chevrolet Corvette

A small highly maneuverable warship that typically escorted larger armed fleets is the origin of the name Corvette. At this point, C3 generation Corvette accounts for the middle section of the brand's story and, looking back, it's a remarkably appropriate car to hold that place. With visible nods to both Chevrolet's heritage and future, the celebration was on for the 25-year anniversary of the iconic 'Vette.

As a gift to herself, the consigner bought a 1978 Corvette upon graduation from high school. With marriage, a career that moved her family, and all that goes on with life in general, the original High School High purchase had to go by the wayside. Fast forward to a ride with a growing up daughter, and a happenstance pass of a dealership that had an exact version of the original car, memories turned to desires, and a slip of the daughter's tongue about a “test drive” led to an adoring husband rubber stamping the whim. Here we are 20+ years later, and life changes again, so sadly the folly must go by the wayside, and Classic Auto Mall is offering this life change at a very reasonable price.

Exterior
Beautiful but menacing black covers every inch of this consigner stated 65,000 mile 2 owner car. Garage kept, and very few miles put on in the 20 years of ownership, the longest trip this car was subjected to was a jaunt from Tampa to Miami. A few flecks of chrome badging, polished stainless rocker highlighter panel, and window trim break up the black nicely, and present all in very nice condition. Fiberglass matching T top panels can easily be removed to get a little wind in your hair, or sun on your face. Standard 1978 Corvette polished chrome wheels are wrapped by low mileage BF Goodrich T/A radials. A rear spoiler is seen on this car in lieu of the rounded taillight 5mph crash rear.

Interior
Nicely preserved Light Doe Skin leather buckets flank a matching center console which shows some markings and wear on the plastic covering. This console makes its way up to the dash, where climate controls, the gearshift lever for the automatic transmission and ashtray are seen. Taking your eye up further into the dash center, a JVC AM/FM/Cassette radio, and a grouping of essential gauges monitors the vitals of the car. The speedo and tach cluster is fronted by the original tilt wheel steering column. On the passenger's side the appearance of a glove box returns after years of its absence. Behind the buckets is ample carpeted storage with a ceiling of curved glass hatchback. Old school manual window cranks are noted in the door panels, and fair condition carpet on light gold floods the floor and storage space. Noted is the Air Conditioning does not blow cold due to a known pinhole in the system tubing.

Drivetrain
Topped by a Rochester Q Jet carb, the 350ci 185hp version V8 engine sits in a nice engine bay. It is backed by the 3-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission.

Undercarriage
Minimal surface rust, a structurally sound frame and overall nice undercarriage dominate the area. A bit more surface rust covers the dual exhaust and vertical side mounted 4 mufflers near the back of this car.

A memory held, enjoyed, and kept with minimal driving action for the last 20+ years, is now moving on to be enjoyed by someone else.
