1964 Ford Falcon Convertible
1964 Ford Falcon Convertible
Originally Edsel Ford wanted to use the Falcon name for a car in 1936, but he was out voted on the use of this name. Ford would have to wait until 1960 to actually use that name. The second generation of the Ford Falcon began in 1964 with a more squared off design, and many upgrades including an engine upgrade. The convertible option for this year only produced 6,191 units, and half way through the year, this option was discontinued.
A frame-off restoration, with painstaking attention to detail is presented with this Falcon Futura (bench seat) convertible. Beautiful custom paint, all redone mechanicals, as well as every square inch of the frame and undercarriage was meticulously restored. A beautiful example of the year, but even better with some tasteful restoration-modding customization thrown in for good measure.
Dark Maroon 2 stage drapes this beauty, which presents very nicely. Modern touches abound, with LED headlights, backup lights and tail lights. A CHMSL sits on the top of the trunk lid just in case the texter behind you doesn't see you are on the hooks with the LED brake lights blazing. All chrome, brite work, badging and window moldings are beautifully polished, and just add a magnificent touch to the dark maroon. A note about some gaps, and alignment in the steel panels are bit off, however the car is structurally sound, and this could be the result of some detail overlook with the installation of the sub frame connectors. Eagle 15” mag style wheels are all around and are wrapped by low profile 195 X 60R X 15 radials. A new top of the line cloth convertible top which goes up and down electronically like a dream, tops off this car. Consigner states that only 1,500 miles have been clocked since the restoration, and it would appear so, as this example is pristine.
Starting up front with a new padded dash kit, which houses all Dakota digital gauges, allows the driver to keep exact track of all systems assuring they are go. A Pioneer stereo/CD player with an amp is nestled on there too, and pumps full tune throughout the interior. All new interior, including seating, and carpet (a 50/50 front bench and rear bench, door panels etc.) sport power windows, a Southern Air conditioning system which blows cold like a meat locker, all weather stripping, and a top shaded windshield. Topping the dash is a sprint style tachometer, and with the mill installed, you can make the needle rise quickly!
A totally rebuilt 289ci power plant that happens to be bored over by .30, and has a solid lifter cam with roller rockers, along with Sanderson polished heads, throws torque through a new Richmond manual close ratio 6-speed manual transmission, and back to a 9” Ford rear.
Plenty of eye candy even underneath with a T.C.I. complete Mustang II front suspension, slotted disc rotors, and a power rack, rear disc brakes, a Power Master high torque starter, chromed power booster, and master cylinder, and a custom exhaust system to suck those fossil gases away from the mill quickly. A trailer hitch and wiring kit is there for the taking of any extras you may want to pull behind on your ROAD TRIP!
A truly sweet build, with many upgrades and extras for performance and looks, this 1964 Falcon will make other builds out there, easy prey with the setup it has. A great runner, smooth shifter, and a melodious tune from the exhaust, this car is truly a 2019 version of 1964, and can be shown or run all day. Grab your hat when the top is down and tell your passenger seat cover to tighten her bandanna, we're rollin!
