1989 Ford Mustang GT Convertible

The Mustang name, of course, was born with this car, allegedly because aviation enthusiast and Ford Executive Stylist John Najjar Ferzely felt the car resembled a P-51 Mustang airplane. An alternate name-origin story suggests that designer Philip Clark came up with it in reference to the wild horses he saw on a cross-country trip. The horse angle, as opposed to the plane angle, is the one that stuck in the end.

Throughout its life this car has undergone an engine, and a transmission change, a respray, and various other mechanical repairs/redux. Hard to exactly pin down, however it would be safe to say there is a minimum of 189K mikes on this car. There was an engine rebuild 4,000 miles ago.

Exterior
A Scarlet Red respray covers all the panels of this car. Some areas of overspray are evident with this GT designation, we see extra aerodynamic skirting on both lower bodysides, round fog lamps, and triple louvered rear brake light lenses. The convertible in black appears in good condition, and there is a luggage rack on the trunk lid. 5 spoke wheels are on all 4 corners.

Interior
With a swing of the door we are met with very clean white leather buckets that flank a scarlet colored center console. The driver's side has power and manual adjustments. The rear bench is accompanied by white molded vinyl that the top tucks neatly into. Scarlet carpet in good condition floods the floor. A combination of scarlet, and dark gray plastic makes up the remaining console, and the dash. An aftermarket radio is put in the middle of the rise to the dash, and climate controls are noted here too. A 5-speed manual shifter with a leather boot, and climate controls are imbedded here as well. In the steering wheel are controls for the cruise control, and in the door panels are buttons for power windows, and door locks.

Drivetrain
The 5.0 Liter HO V8 seats snugly in the engine bay and has a 5-speed manual T-5 transmission attached to the back of it. 2.73 Rear gears with Traction Lok put power to the rear wheels.

Undercarriage
Mostly clean with slight surface rust on various uncoated steel areas, but otherwise unremarkable. Dual exhaust snake their way back to the twin tail pipes. Consigner states there is a leak in the AC system.

A well-used example in good shape Mustang GT, with a very nice color combo, and some convenience options.
