1957 Mack B-30 Truck

1957 Mack B-30 Truck

The Mack B series was a line of heavy trucks produced by Mack Trucks between 1953 and 1966. It is regarded as the best-known Mack model and many still survive both restored and not. They were available in a variety of configurations, including as fire trucks and school buses. The B model was replaced by the Mack R series models.

For consignment a 1957 B-30 truck cab and frame. This truck has been lovingly restored with some upgraded parts, but original configuration has been retained. Small details like welds, and manufacturing spot welds have been retained. Consigner states that this is the ONLY '57 B-30 in the USA that has hydraulic brakes.

Exterior
School bus yellow covers this entire truck cab, and frame. As noted, the exterior is all steel, and all original welds, manufacturing seams etc. have not been covered over so truck can remain original looking upon close inspection. Panels are in good alignment, and chrome, mostly in badging form, though minimal, is bright and shiny. The MACK bulldog guards the top of the radiator. This truck is also the only truck of its year to retain its original mirror brackets. Small round mirrors at the end of long posts held by these brackets are painted in black. Glass is all clear, with no cracking or pitting. Frame is very sturdy and showing no rust, anywhere. New rims and tires, (dual rear wheels) new rubber, and chrome, as well as all bolts and fasteners put into this restoration are stainless steel.

Interior
A fresh coat of MACK Green covers all metal inside, and newly restored gauges, knobs, and pulls are set into this dash. The original steering wheel is still turning miles, and consigner states there is a new rubber floor mat that comes with the truck, but it needs to be patterned and fit to the restored and newly painted metal floor. The 60/40 bench seat configuration has been upholstered with nice brown vinyl, as well as the headliner which mirrors the round roof line, and creates an interesting fan with its vinyl seams. The long gear shifter, and handbrake sprout from the floor, and are perfectly ergonomically positioned for long haul.

Drivetrain
The gas 331ci inline 6-cylinder engine, which has been rebuilt with new bearings and rings, plus has had the valves lapped for perfect fits, resides in a nicely restored engine bay. A new radiator, hoses and belts, and a newly rebuilt carburetor and fuel pump are noted on the engine which since has only seen 250 miles since these upgrades and re-dos. Power goes to the rear through a 5-speed direct manual transmission.

Undercarriage
Noted is absolutely no rust and only fresh paint on the frame and underside. Consigner states there is an entirely new brake system excepting the master cylinder which has undergone a thorough makeover but remains original.
