1957 Ford Fairlane Convertible

1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Convertible

Maybe it's the angled grille update or the sense of motion inherent in its swept styling, but there's just something about the 1957 Ford Fairlane that demands attention. Arguably the most underrated of Detroit's 50's super stars, the Fairlane sold well in its day and continues to be a staple of the collector car market. The beneficiary of a recent rotisserie restoration, this top option Fairlane 500 is just waiting for a sunny day and manicured show field. So, if you're the kind of enthusiast who likes to envision having their name engraved on trophies, take a minute to get to know this killer Ford convertible!

A complete restoration with a color change from original is to die for. This boulevard cruiser will attract a lot of attention, and that is just when it is parked. The phrase “they don't make them like they used to” applies x10 here, as this car just drips with 1950's styling, and color.

Exterior
Fronting the mile-long hood bathed in a blue that is somewhere between a Baby Blue and Capri Blue, this stunner sports the original grille, newly chromed bumper, and body color matching cowled single headlamps. Making our way back along the stainless and cream colored “Fairlane Strip” we see straight panels with slight alignment issues, but very smooth paint, and gleaming brite work. This makes its way back to the pre-jet age version of the turbine circular tail lamp with just the hint of an angled fin atop them. The mile-long trunk deck lid framed by the tail lamps, drops into a massive beautifully re-chromed bumper with dual exhaust tips peeking out from below. A pristine white convertible moves up and down mechanically with ease, and a body matching boot cover is noted to cover top when it is in the down position.

Interior
Carrying through with the color combo motif of the exterior, we see a blue tufted with white bolsters and blue piping 50/50 bench seats upfront, and a long bench in the rear. The front seats are framed by metal rail covers and have a power option installed. Plush dark blue carpet covers all the floor, and it looks up to a blue metal dash, with all perfectly aligned gauges and knobs in white and aluminum. A cluster of 3 aftermarket gauges hangs below the dash, and an original but perfectly restored steering wheel and column front this menagerie.

Drivetrain
A pull on the front hinged hood reveals a nicely restored engine bay with a blinged-out Thunderbird Special V8 weighing in at 312ci bored out, and a 40-degree small cam inserted. A 4 speed transmission has been inserted and a new clutch T/O pressure bearing.

Undercarriage
A solid frame all draped in beautiful black shows some repaired areas, but these maintain structural integrity, and compromise nothing underneath. A new front suspension lowered 2” has been installed along with power front disc brakes. All new rubber seals, and a sparkling new exhaust is noted.

This wonderful restoration of a massive example of Detroit iron will certainly be able to add a little spice to your weekend routine and take Sunday drives to a whole new level. And it's a convertible!
