1971 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster

1971 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster

The 1971 Chevrolet Corvette is one of the least changed from the previous year. This was the aftermath of the labor problems during '69 and '70. The biggest changes were in the motor to reduce the octane requirements from previous years as mandated by GM. This took higher priority than any cosmetic changes. One thing that was changed was the parking light lenses, most 71's have amber lenses although some early production models have clear. The resin process used to form body parts was also updated to increase quality. This was the last year for the M22 "Rock Crusher" heavy duty manual transmission. It was named the "Rock Crusher" because of the sounds it made when shifting. Still no black Vettes' this year on the standard order sheet.

For consignment, a frame off restored 1971 Stingray “Sugar Scoop” version of the classic Corvette. Almost showroom looking, a not much seen Sunflower Yellow over black leather version. Very nice and straight immaculate fiberglass and chrome, this car will have you yearning for yellow.

Exterior
Sunflower Yellow in near perfect condition, a very nicely done respray covers the exterior. On the center of the hood coincidentally right above the air cleaner of the engine, it appears there was a bit of heat damage to the paint in the form of slight bubbling exactly matching the air cleaner shape. It truly takes a keen eye to spot it, however in the interest of full disclosure it is there. Chrome bumpers, and all britework are like new, as the trim on the hood scoop. In 1971, fender flares were designed into the body contours to reduce wheel-thrown debris damage. Egg-crate grills with matching front fender side vents and larger squared front directional lamps are noted and correct for this year. The previously round dual exhaust outlets were made larger and rectangular in shape. and can be seen at the rear of the Stingray along with the split bumper. A very good condition black convertible top which functions flawlessly tops the exterior off. Also available a yellow matching hard top, however the headliner is green instead of black like the rest of the interior.

Interior
Two Showroom condition black leather buckets sit within a sea of black carpeting, which has two “Corvette” logo carpeted floor mats. The center console and ascending panel which works its way to the dash houses several gauges, the shift lever, and an OE Lock digital radio. Just a few missing chips of paint are seen here, but otherwise extremely clean. An armrest which doubles as a storage compartment fits snugly between the buckets. Dash is showroom, and a note to attention to detail on the restoration the vent levers which flank the shifter have near perfect lettering on them.

Drivetrain
A CJK code for this engine denotes it is a 350ci/270hp Turbo Fire engine with a Rochester Quadrajet single 4-barrel carburetor atop. Attached to the rear of this is a THM or Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission. Noted is the total absence of any corrosion on cast aluminum parts, and the pristine condition of the engine itself as is the fully restored engine bay.

Undercarriage
The frame, floorpans, and rocker panels are all totally rust free, and painted nicely. A dry underside with virtually no drips, or faults can be viewed with the car on a lift. No problems to report here!
