1969 Chevrolet C10 Short Bed Pickup

1969 Chevrolet C10 Short Bed Pickup

“Chevrolet's 1969 fleet of pickups, light duty chassis cabs and 4 wheel drive models. Fleetsides, stepsides, campers, all with the bold new front end design that promises uncompromising performance and durability to truck owners. All in all, it adds up to another great year for truck buyers, however you use your truck.” From the 1969 sale brochure.

For consignment, a 1969 Chevrolet C10 short bed pickup truck showing 70,952 non-actual miles, a truck that has essentially been rebuilt from the ground up. The cab and hood are original but all other panels and bed parts have been replaced, and the frame was sandblaster and covered in epoxy black. It's got the body of a C10 and the heart of a Corvette and if that ain't the heartbeat of America, we don't know what is.

Exterior
Two stage Marina Blue was chosen for this truck. Why? Cause it looks damn good and it makes everything that's not blue pop just a little bit brighter. That includes the grille with its bold midline trim, the grille surround framing the epic face and the mirror-like bumpers. On the side, polished trim hugs the wheel openings and skirts along the lower panel, visually connecting to the polished 15-inch aluminum slot wheels wearing staggered size tires stamped with an early 2021 date code. The rear bumper holds tight to the back, almost more ornamental than functional and either way, looking good below a smooth tailgate, flanked by flush fitting tail lights. The rounded cab rises high, like the tufts of a Spartan's helmet and wears modest side mirrors. Bring your wax applicator to the back because the bed is glossy blue and spotless. Imperfections include a scratch on the rocker panel and a minor ding down low are noted.

Interior
Awesome 60's style print covers the cloth inserts of the door panel, followed below by blue carpeted lowers. A white plastic door pull interrupts the blue along with traditional crank style handles and that white is picked up by the bench seat where it surrounds more of the 60's-style cloth, all looking great. A three spoke aftermarket steering wheel is rimmed in white and metal perched on a body colored column that leads to a beige backed instrument cluster with original looking gauges. In the blue center stack lives the A/C control panel and an AM/FM/CD radio, while the glove box takes on the beige tone of the cluster. Blue loop carpet is in fine condition on the floor and footwell walls and a stitched white vinyl headliner panel creates a clean and dramatic ceiling.

Drivetrain
Under the spotless hood is a 5.7 liter L98 V8 from a 1987 Corvette, this one with aluminum heads and tuned port fuel injection, all rated at 230 horsepower. A 700R4 transmission is married to the engine and is a 4-speed automatic sending power to the 12 bolt rear axle. Can't have “go” without “slow” and for that, we have power disc brakes up front and power drums in the back.

Undercarriage
Yep, we kind of expected this, a perfectly clean and dry underside. Headers send dual exhaust back to FlowMaster mufflers, then send the pipes on their way to dump out of sight behind the rear bumper, under the bed. In front, coil spring suspension accompanies a 2.5 inch drop while in back, a 3-link, coil springs and a panhard bar team with a 3-inch drop to create a lower profile pickup truck.

Drive-Ability
We have a clear sunny day to proceed with our functionality test of this clean blue machine. The Vette V8 fired up and expelled a lovely exhaust note while the truck rolled smoothly onto the tarmac where it performed well and provided a comfortable and capable ride. Tracking, handling, and braking are all good. Only the reverse lights don't work, all other functions operate as expected. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Are you looking for a clean, turnkey C10 that has all the right ingredients? Heck, we love big exhaust tips but love the fact the exhaust is hidden on this truck, adding to its somewhat sleeper presentation. The aftermarket has made it easy to restore Chevy C10's but let's face it, you don't have time to get to the one under tarps in your driveway, and the HOA is starting to whine. Pick this up and you'll be king of the hill and reclaim your good standing in the neighborhood.
