In the wake of the December 7, 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the government decreed that to conserve scarce metals, cars built after January 1, 1942, were to use no brightwork apart from chrome-plated bumpers. Grilles, belt moldings, and hubcaps were painted in contrasting colors, creating what became known as "blackout" models.

A fully operational modified version of a 1942 Chevrolet Master, known colloquially as the “Rod Father” has undergone a full customization completed in April of 2000. A chopped, pie cut, body style is sure to be a head turner.

Chopped 4-1/2”, hood pie cut 1-1/2” a V butted windshield, Chevy sedan rear window, and lots of grinding and sanding on this rust free southern acquired body. After final smoothing it was sprayed with Jersey Yacht White, giving it a very clean white, white look. Fifteen-inch Billet Specialties wheels with polished stainless backing plates are seen all around.

Sandstone Tweed with tan leather covers 4 buckets, a full-length console with storage compartments, and the top of the padded dash. The headliner is also tweed, however, has an embossed pattern in it using a second lighter material. The driver's seat is power, as is the remote to open the trunk. Billet steering wheel, door and window handles gear shift lever, and inside mirror add some hardness and a highlight to the cloth interior. Air-conditioning, heat, cruise control, power steering, power brakes, topped off by an awesome CD sound system controlled by a remote.

The star of this show is a 1986 350ci Chevrolet V8, a Weinand intake, Edelbrock carburetor, Sanderson headers with copper gaskets and stag 8 bolts. A Competition cam and lifters, a Milling oil pump, and a Pro Form distributor with Crossfire cap/Taylor wires, makes absolutely certain it is going to start quickly. In back is a 350 Turbo transmission with an added shift kit.

A stock frame has an all bolted on Chassis Engineering front and rear suspension, a stock 1974 Nova differential at 3:4.2 ratio.

Everything on this car is new, or rebuilt, save for the rear housing, and the steering column. Now that's impressive! This car can be driven with or without hand controls and has a slider on the passenger side behind the seat to accommodate a wheelchair.
