1946 Plymouth Street Rod

There are various theories about the origin of the term "hot rod". The common theme is that "hot" related to "hotting up" a car, which means modifying it for greater performance. One theory is that "rod" means roadster, a lightweight 2-door car which was often used as the basis for early hot rods. Another theory is that "rod" refers to camshaft, a part of the engine which was often upgraded in order to increase power output. In the early days, a car modified for increased performance was called a "gow job". This term morphed into the hot rod in the early to middle 1950s.

This 1948 Plymouth Street Rod offered is a 20-year old restoration which still looks and drives great in every way. The purple paint still shines like new with very few flaws if any. Accented with light purple and blue flames and stripes, the build harkens to period rods of the 50's and early 60's. Let's call it a “retro-mod”

Exterior
Showing shaved headlight bezels, door handles, and rear badging, as well as “frenched “taillights, this Purple (eggplant) Plymouth had very clean, simple lines. Leaving intact the pointed grille in chrome, as well as the “Plymouth” badging on the hood, adds some highlighting to the deep paint, which still shines nicely. Also seen is creative use of flames on their headlights in contrasting pink and electric blue. A pink belt line elongated chevron style wide pinstripe, accented with electric blue stripes intersecting at the rear quarter panel, adds flair to the back of the car. The exterior is finished off with chrome centerline wheels.

Interior
Off white late model bucket seats in off white cloth in front, and a couch like matching bench in the rear even having armrests built into the bench seat brings up the interior rear. Door panels match this cloth and are framed with purple A and B painted interior pillars. A purple dash with a brushed stainless VDO gauge cluster is fronted by a tilt wheel steering wheel which makes entering and exiting very easy. A mohair headliner emulates the original, and is showing in reddish brown, as is the carpeting below.

Drivetrain
Powered by a 318ci engine, producing 300hp, this Plymouth is a very dependable and an easy to drive street car. The automatic transmission is a torque-flight with 3 speeds.

Undercarriage
A peek underneath reveals a restored rust-free environment in…. Purple. Suspension, exhaust, axles, and gas tank all appear restored.
