2000 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe

2000 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe

More than 250,000 fifth generation corvettes were produced, and they represented cosmetic and technological advancement over the C4.  The body was more streamlined and soft edges became even softer, more seamless.  Both the C4 and the C5 have 5.7 liter engines, but in 1997, Chevrolet's introduction of the LS1 engine yielded an incredible 100 horsepower over the C4 while retaining the substantial torque numbers.  The realignment of weight including the use of a transaxle, along with other structural changes, greatly balanced and improved handling of the C5's.

For consignment, a 2000 Chevrolet Corvette coupe with a title verified 18,529 actual miles, two owners, and all original with the exception of an exhaust system.  It also has the desirable 6-speed manual transmission, and all the service records will be included with the car.

Exterior
Magnetic Red Metallic is a fine burgundy hue that spills over every panel of this American sports car.  Its wedge shape starts with a pointed front end with hidden headlights over sculpted intakes that house fog lights, flanked by marker lights, and above a pair of intake ducts on the lower fascia.  There's also a black chin spoiler underneath to direct air to the ground while the long, slightly inclined hood channels air over the raked windshield and over its rounded roofline.  Corvettes alternate between straight, flat tails and rounded ones, and the C5 goes rounded and wide with a symmetrical arrangement of quad tail lights, quad center exit exhaust, and integrated air splitters that is a feast for the eyes, and the typical angle you'll see as it flies by.  A tinted glass targa top provides a break from the red, and the 17 and 18-inch chrome wheels carry tires with a mid 2022 date code.  The only imperfections we note are scrapes under the chin and some curb rash on the wheels.

Interior
The monochrome interior is classic black and starts with the door panels with controls are canted to fit the wrist.  The black leather sport bucket seats are in super shape with straight stitched inserts and firm side bolstering.  The thick black steering wheel looks factory fresh, and the standard gauge package is clear and easy to read with no unnecessary extras, six gauges in a symmetrical pattern that's within the sightline of the driver.  The standard AM/FM/CD radio is in the center stack along with the heat and AC controls.  Everything is housed in molded black plastic.  The standard shifter is booted in black leather and is in showroom condition.  The black low pile carpet is perfect and protected by black Corvette carpeted mats.  The back hatch area houses the extra top and is covered in very nice black carpet and covered with a privacy shield between the glass and flat surface.

Drivetrain
Power comes from a 5.7 liter LS1 V8 rated at 345 horsepower.  It is fed copious amounts of air and fuel via electronic fuel injection, and this potent mill is tied to a Tremec T56 6-speed fun stick.  3.42 gears with limited slip are found in the back and power disc brakes are found all around.  The engine bay, like the rest of the car, is in showroom like condition with no alterations.

Undercarriage
Eighteen thousand miles wasn't enough to get the underside very dirty and as such, it's darn clean with only hints of being driven.  Our consignor notes a Billy Boat PRT exhaust stainless exhaust system has been added to the stock set up and included a muffler that leads to the four chrome tips exiting from the center.  The suspension consists of independent unequal length double wishbones with transverse fiberglass monoleaf springs and optional magnetorheological dampers.  To improve handling and weight distribution, Chevrolet put an integrated transaxle in the back, and this can be seen from under the car.

Drive-Ability
No surprises on our short jaunt around the test loop.  The car has amazing acceleration, incredible handling, and the cabin is a very nice place to be.  Some people prefer the heart pounding impact of colored interiors, but some of us prefer the classic black cavern that enables clear views of the outside and focused views of the dash.  This 2000 sounds great and tracks well and this is one we could definitely live with.  All functions operate as intended.  While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

A nice, basic Corvette coupe.  But don't mistake basic for boring.  The Chevrolet Corvette offers some of the best bang for the buck in the car world, and this one is a fine example that would be at home on daily commutes as it would to cruise night and Cars and Coffee.  Will it continue to be a clean, garage queen, or will it get out on the road more often?  That's entirely up to you.  But first, you have to throw your hat in the ring!
