2020 Lexus RC F Track Coupe

2020 Lexus RC F Track Coupe

“New to the lineup for 2020, the Lexus RC F Track is a limited production model for hardcore enthusiasts. It blends the luxury and craftsmanship of the standard RC F with performance upgrades typically reserved for exotic sports cars. It's the latest milestone for the F performance brand that will continue to evolve as an important pillar of the overall strategy at Lexus.” Thx to Lexus.com. And when Lexus stated in 2020 that this would be a limited production vehicle, they weren't kidding.

For consignment, a 2020 Lexus RC F Track coupe. A 1owner car with a title verified 2,230 actual miles. Why would this car have so few miles? Well, maybe it's only had track time. Or more likely, it's been lovingly preserved because it's one of 50 imported to the United States and one of 400 produced worldwide. Limited? More like super rare. If they were distributed evenly nationwide, there would be but one car in each state.

Exterior
Ultra White colors the body but there's no getting around that hood which is exposed carbon fiber and vented. The front spoiler is also carbon fiber and leads to the gaping Lexus hourglass shaped grille flanked by matrix LED headlights and a bulging front fascia. The carbon fiber package also includes the roof and a fixed rear wing, while the racing suit is enhanced with side splitters and 19-inch BBS ultra lightweight forged alloy wheels wearing Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S ZR tires. The wheel design was drawn from the RC F GT3 race car in matte black and a bright machined lip. Quad stainless steel exhaust tips, arranged in an unconventional diagonal pattern, are coated in a blue finish for a unique look and surround an air diffuser. Smoked tail lights give the RC a slightly sinister look, but not all the red has been removed from the car. The brake calipers are painted bright red to differentiate this car from the standard RC F, which has orange calipers. Much of the exterior components are as much intended to increase downforce and aerodynamics as they are for shedding weight and indeed, the Track is down 121 pounds from the standard RC F. Imperfections on the exterior? None noted.

Interior
Like a blast from a hot furnace, red leather and Alcantara get your attention, at first on the door panel that is also accentuated with a 3 color carbon fiber panel that houses the controls, all surrounded by a high-quality black plastic. Race ready leather and suede front bucket seats are dressed in red and have deep side bolsters and polished gaps for a racing harness, although normal seat belts are standard. The 2+2 arrangement provided high backed rear seats with the embossed Lexus “F” on the headrests. The sculpted steering wheel is race inspired, wrapped in perforated leather with red stitching and a red leather bottom emblazoned with another F. A full digital display on the dash that's topped in red leather has multiple settings and functions. Only the best for this high performance car as the technology package includes Apple CarPlay, Lexus Enform WiFi capable, Lexus Enform remote with Smart Watch & Alexa Skill Integration, Lexus Enform App Suite 2.0, XM capable, navigation with Mark Levinson audio: 17 Speaker 835 Watt CLARI-FI technology, Lexus Enform Destination, Dynamic Navigation & Voice Command, Bluetooth, USB audio plug. The center console houses the stout shifter which picks up the red stitching and a convenient drive mod knob is to the right, close to a launch button. Just behind that is a navigation pad similar to a mouse pad on a laptop, only bigger. Bright red low pile carpet covers the floor while the gray suede headline is sculpted into the overhead console which includes lights, microphone and other functions.

Drivetrain
A 5.0 liter DOHC V8 is gleaming under the hood and is rated at 472 horsepower. This is an advanced engine with changes made to the air intake system, secondary ports timing, and throttle curve. When released, Lexus boasted 0-60 times of 3.96 seconds owing this quickness to the weight reduction and engine modifications. It's fuel injected of course, and motivated to move by an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifter option. Gearing is 3.13 and located in the rear axle with a Torsen limited slip differential. Power disc brakes are supplied and equipped with Brembo carbon ceramic brakes, 6 piston front calipers, 4 piston rear calipers.

Undercarriage
It's clean underneath and much of it is specific to the Track coupe. The dual exhaust features titanium mufflers and connector pipes to reduce weight and all original equipment is present. There are some aluminum components where previous steel would have been used for a savings of 500 grams. The F spec suspension includes wishbone suspension in front and multi-link in the rear, both ends being independent.

Drive-Ability
A Lexus with less than 3,000 miles is fully expected to function properly and this car did not let us down. The seats hug you and the fat steering wheel gives you the confidence of a professional racer while the tuned mufflers put out a sweet song that varies with RPMs. It's clear the way this car handles that it is track focused, firm around turns and eager on straight aways, braking is off the charts good. This F gets an A+ from us, and we add it to the wish list!

When you show up at Cars and Coffee, be prepared to answer the question, “what mods have you done to your RC F?”. You'll have to explain that this is a factory track car, built by Lexus, for the ultimate driving experience. This is not a toy, it's an ultra rare and somewhat obscure performance Lexus that might give an LFA a bit of a run. Plus, it has more seats and is rarer by a factor of four.
