1968 Chevrolet C10 Short Bed Pickup

1968 Chevrolet C10 Short Bed Pickup

“It's slices, it dices, it can cut a slice a whole firm unripe tomato in just one stroke!”. That was the slogan for Ron Popeil's Veg-o-Matic, a 70's kitchen gadget that could do it all. Turns out, Chevy C10's are the Veg-o-Matics of the car world. In our more than six years in business, there are few vehicles that have been the subject of a wider variety of customizations than the C10. They've been lifted, slammed, shaved, resto-modded, patina'd, hot rodded, drag raced, and about anything else your imagination can think of.

For consignment, a stunning 1968 Chevrolet C10 short bed pickup truck in show stopping orange with a lowered stance, and as clean as a new #5 billiard ball. 20-inch wheels are tucked under the fenders, and it features a number of exterior, interior, and drivetrain features that make this a winning shot. Chalk up your pool cue, rack up the balls, we're about to break it open for you.

Exterior
Starting with the classic 1968 grille, orange paint adorns the entire surround and coats the truck with a glow that is evidence of fastidious care. From the cowl induction hood, the beltline, the bed walls, and even the diamond tread toolbox in back, all glossy orange. Side markers have been shaved as has the tailgate handle which was moved to the inside of the gate. The embossed Chevrolet on the tailgate is gone, having been smoothed, and the stock bumper has been replaced with a low profile show version. The cab and rocker panels sandwich the orange with white, a configuration available in 1968, now classic. 20-inch US Mag wheels really enhance the truck's lowered stance, and the low profile tires have late 2021 date codes. The bed is lined with a fitted rubber mat and the metal work including cab trim, door handles and mirrors are in excellent condition. The exterior is show worthy and ready to go with the only noteworthy fault being the passenger's door showing as a slightly darker shade of orange.

Interior
Black plastic door panel fit neatly over the carpeted panel below, all surrounded by body colored steel and looking clean! Black vinyl covers the bench seat with the epic black and white houndstooth patterned cloth insert, all looking very nice. Chrome spokes on a black rubberized rim dress the steering wheel which shares the polished column with a shifter and gear indicator. A clean dashboard with chrome trimmed gauges looks absolutely fresh and does not stray from original configuration. Orange covers the rest of the dash which houses an AM/FM/CD radio, the AC controls, and vents, while a center console unit has been added on the transmission hump and includes the requisite cupholders. Low pile black carpet covers the floor while a patterned padded vinyl headliner is perched above, both in wonderful condition.

Drivetrain
Open the hood and we find a spotless engine bay, home to a 350ci V8 with a QuickFuel 650cfm Brawler carburetor over a polished intake manifold. Black Chevrolet valve covers top an orange painted block and the inner fender wells and firewall are glossy orange. Our consignor states a new water pump is present, as well as an electric fuel pump with new 3/8” lines. Power is delivered to the rear 12 bolt via a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission. To slow the spin of the 20-inch wheels, power disc brakes are supplied up front with power drums in the back.

Undercarriage
Pleasantly show quality clean underneath with zero surface rust nor apparent fluids. The lowered stock suspension is comprised of coil springs on independent suspension in front and trailing arms, coil springs, and a panhard bar in the rear. The dual exhaust have a short trip, from the headers they almost immediately meet a pair of stock style mufflers, then dump under the truck through down facing chrome tips.

Drive-Ability
We were excited to get this clean truck on the loop to see how she runs but were met with a stubborn starting truck. We had to find a sweet spot in the ignition before the truck would comply and it did, which allowed us a lap. And once started, the roaring 350 ran well with plenty of gusto under the hood and a comfortable cab. With low profile tires, you're bound to feel more of the road but it's a small sacrifice given the stance of the truck. Visibility is excellent and we love the rear tinted window. Brakes and interior functions work well, with the exception only of the air conditioning which is not blowing cold.

Here's a show ready truck with spectacular paint, a nice drivetrain, and a spotless interior and undercarriage. Bright orange will turn heads and those wheels and lowered stance are mean looking. You won't be behind the eight ball with this purchase as C10's are hotter than ever, and this flame colored beauty is a winner. Call your shot. Then call the mall.
