1986 Chevrolet K-10 Long Bed Pickup

1986 Chevrolet K-10 Long Bed Pickup

Children of the 70's and 80's have fond memories of a K-series truck.  It was the 1982 GMC K2500 driven by Lee Majors in “The Fall Guy”.  Jacked up and ready to take on bail jumpers off road and on, there's never been a more memorable GM 4x4 on television, but maybe because Heather Thomas was often sitting shotgun.  In 2019, Hagerty placed in #1 in “The Nine Best TV Pickup Trucks of All Time.”

For consignment, a 1986 Chevy K-10 , one that immediately conjures up thoughts of The Fall Guy .  The truck went through an extensive restoration which addressed rust issues and upgraded everything from the paint to the interior to the sound system.  The truck is long and tall on both looks and attitude.  If you want to tone it down a bit, the original wheels come with the truck.

Note: Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area

Exterior
Black and silver is the theme here as the panels are coated in a hue that would make Darth Vader take notice.  The grille is blacked out and the diodes in the headlights are set in a black background.  Black bumper guards front a chrome bumper that's in great shape and polished metal side mirrors add more contrast to the black.  Yes, even the bowtie on the grille is black and so are the 20-inch MotoMetal 962 wheels.  The deep wheels have just the right amount of silver trim to match the truck perfectly.  The trim, body gaps, and paint all look good.  Line-X Platinum bed liner coats the long bed in uniform fashion and 35% tint coats the windows.

Interior
More silver and black inside with door panels that consist of molded plastic, velour inserts, and brushed nickel trim pieces.  Per our consignor, new window regulators and wiring were installed on the doors.  The new cover of the bench seat is a combination of vinyl with velour inserts in black of course, and in great condition.  The two spoke steering wheel is original and shares the column with the shifter.  The clean dashboard houses gauges that have been enhanced with LED lights and the AM/FM radio has Bluetooth capabilities and extra speakers in the kick panels.  The range selector is floor mounted and surrounded by newer black low pile carpet in very good shape.  The black headliner and LED dome light all look great.

Drivetrain
Under the hood we find a 350ci V8 which the consignor states is a Jeg's crate motor rated at 350 horsepower.  It's topped by a Holley 4-barrel carburetor and linked to a 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission with 10-bolt differentials front and rear.  Power disc brakes are up front with power drums in the back.  The engine bay, hood liner, and headers all look clean.

Undercarriage
No lift needed here to photograph the underside, and apparently it's easy to clean too because this belly is spotless!  We'd almost hesitate to take it in mud to avoid messing this up.  It was undercoated during the restoration and still maintains a uniform underside dominated by flat black.  Dual exhaust heads back, sans catalytic converters, to Flowmaster mufflers then exit out back through straight, polished tailpipes under the rear bumper.  Leaf spring suspension is found front and rear.

Drive-Ability
A big step up and we're in the cab and high enough to spot forest fires.  The hills that surround Morgantown would be no match for this beast, but we settle for our flat test loop.  The truck sounds great and runs well with plenty of gusto under the hood.  The knobby tires make some noise but we knew that and the stereo can drown it out.  Meanwhile, everything works except for the A/C.

If you're looking for a cowboy dressed in a tuxedo, look no further.  If you're looking for a square body on steroids, we've got you covered.  If you need a show truck that can haul your Costco load, we're your go to mall.  Lee Majors would approve.  Here's a great truck that has all the right ingredients.  All you need to do is fill that shotgun seat!
