1994 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

1994 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

In 1994, the C4 Corvette received some updates.  Some revisions to the interior on the dash and door panels, a new steering wheel design, the LT1 sequential fuel injection becomes controlled by the mass air flow sensor, and the 4-speed automatic transmission is electronically controlled.  23,300 units were produced in 1994 and of them, just 5,346 were convertibles.

For consignment, a '94 Corvette with all the right ingredients.  It's a convertible.  It's black.  It's been well kept and it has low, low mileage with an odometer showing a title verified 31,170 actual miles.  Although it's wearing chrome aftermarket wheels, the original wheels come with the car and the consignor states they are in perfect condition.

Exterior
Wearing the consignor stated original Black two stage paint that drapes over the car this finish is miles deep, and as we all know black can be a bear to maintain.  This car shows very nicely with a mirror finish that literally stopped me in my tracks in the mall.  The rounded fascia and tail of the '94 harkens back to the original '84 C4 but with a more lasting and relevant design.  The profile of the car is, not surprisingly, shark like...long, low, and streamlined.  The nose stretches out before the deeply raked windshield, a short cabin, and a flat rear deck.  The canvas black top and its glass window are in excellent condition.  We note a touch of wear on the canvas where it meets the bottom of the window.  The 17-inch C6 replica wheels look fantastic.  In black, this car is elegant and sporty with a touch of badassery for good measure.

Interior
Solid black molded plastic doors give way to the door sill where Corvette is spelled out in white letters.  Black leather bucket seats with asymmetrical stitch lines were used from '94-'96 and are distinct.  These are in good shape, and we do note just a touch of wear on the ingress contact area on the bolster.  The leather wrapped steering wheel has a large airbag compartment in the center.  The analog dash flanking the familiar orange backed digital screen includes an ascending tachometer, then four small gauges that complete the arch on the other side.  The center stack, which is canted toward the driver, contains an info screen with idiot lights, push button A/C controls, and a factory AM/FM/Cassette radio with matching push buttons.  The automatic shifter is in the center console with more black leather in the knob and boot.  A variety of seat adjustment controls are here as well.  Behind the armrest is the storage shelf in the back, covered in a low pile black carpet.  This carpet covers the front floor as well which are protected by black carpeted mats.  It all looks very nice.

Drivetrain
The much loved 5.7 liter, 350ci V8 is up in the long nose which is fuel injected and factory rated at 300 horsepower and 340-foot pounds of torque.  The 4-speed automatic transmission is the 700R4 which sends gusto to the rear wheels where it finds 2.73 gears in a limited slip axle.  Power disc brakes are at each of the four hubs.

Undercarriage
Fantastically clean underneath!  There's no surface rust to speak of and no grime or oil.  The dual exhaust flow from the engine then runs tandem under the aluminum driveshaft to then go wide to meet the factory mufflers and exit through rectangle tips that tuck into a subtly sculpted rear valance.  Independent suspension is found on the front and rear and includes forged aluminum components, transverse monoleaf springs, steel stabilizers, and other components not seen on mere mortal cars.

Drive-Ability
Out of my way, C4 fan coming through!  Ever since my cross country trip in an '84 in 1985, I've been attached to C4s like a remora fish on a tiger shark.  This one performs as expected, with a torquey grunt off the line and great acceleration and handling.  Sure, it's a little less refined than your C7, but this is the analog antidote to Corvette fever!  The only thing that didn't work in this 31k mile car was the driver's side mirror up and down movement.

Yes, C4's are still bargains for the level of performance and when you combine that with one dressed in a black tuxedo and retractable top, you have a winning recipe for the gateway drug to the sports, collector and classic car worlds!  Once again, we don't make predictions on sales, but I'll venture to guess this one won't last.  Put your money down on black and call today!
