1930 Cadillac Series 353 Sedan

1930 Cadillac Series 353 Sedan

The Cadillac Automobile Company was founded in 1903.  In 1909 Cadillac was acquired by General Motors, it was GMs premier luxury car, also specialising in commercial chassis, used for limousines, ambulances and hearses.  Cadillacs V8 was introduced way back in 1914, the V12 and V16 introduced in 1930.  With that, three models were available, bodies were either Fisher or Fleetwood, (both now owned by General Motors).  The 96hp 353ci V8 was called the 353 on a 140 or 152 inch wheelbase, (2 door coupe, convertible, 4 door sedan, town sedan and Imperial sedan, Fleetwood phaetons and roadsters available too).

For consignment, from the well heeled category, a 1930 Cadillac Series 353 sedan for your consideration.  This beauty was purchased from Canada where it sat in a storage container for 10 years, and our consignor released it back into the world, but not before first giving the engine and other systems a thorough once over to be sure it is running nicely.

Exterior
As you can plainly see just the hood ornament is worth the price of admission.  Not to mention the chromed radiator surround and the woven chromed grille it sits atop.  Super big round headlights hang off of either side and dual fog lights are just above the dual bar chrome bumper below.  Beautiful silver paint takes over at those points for the cowled hood, and it is flanked by curved black painted fenders that frame red wire spoked chromed center hubbed 19-inch wheels wrapped in ultra wide whitewalls.  A black painted trimming runs the length of the car through the hood, door handle areas, and rear quarter.  A running board holds the fenders together and makes access to the passenger compartment easy.  Just above the rockers are some storage doors and bins for various and sundry items.  Nestled within the front part of the fenders is a rear view mirror topped spare tire.  A chromed bezeled turn signal light is atop the front fenders in the center.  The glass is good with just slight crazing on the edges of the rear glass.  On the back we see a large black painted trunk with chromed trim and on either side are stalked tail lights.  Below is another dual bar chrome bumper. A  black vinyl panel lines the center of the roof.  All surfaces are presented as excellent.

Interior
The door panels and benches are covered in a fine burgundy fuzzy broadcloth.  These benches have some tufted and buttoned panels within their seats and backs.  The rear passengers have plenty of room as there is even room for an oriental rug on the floor between the driver and passenger.  Roll shades are on all rear glass, and the burgundy carpeting these chairs float on is pristine.  Upfront a black step dash has all the necessary gauges the driver could want to monitor the vitals of this large luxury limousine like automobile.  Also, why not some chromed lighting, ash receptacles and wood vases on the B pillars because you can.

Drivetrain
Under the cowled hood is a restored and fully functional 353ci L-head V8.  It has a 1-barrel carburetor on top and a 3-speed manual transmission on back.  The rear axle is a 4.39 version.  A fantastic presentation in this engine bay.

Undercarriage
Massive black straight steel for the free and floor pans with no rust is seen underneath.  Also all leaf sprung suspension, and 4 wheel mechanical drum brakes are installed.

Drive-Ability
The car started and ran very nicely.  It handled well and was actually easy to drive on the test track.  All functions were working and the interior was very comfortable and spacious, especially in the back.

A very nice example of the Series 353 sedan with 5 passenger capability, straight rust free steel, curved fenders, running boards and a luxury roomy interior.  Here I come Park Avenue
