1979 Chevrolet Silverado K10
1979 Chevrolet Silverado K10
The model year 1960 brought the Chevrolet pickup into the modern era with its C/K series lineup. The “C” designation identified two-wheel-drive pickups, and the “K” identified 4X4s. The most common pickup was the C10, a half-ton truck with a 6.5- or 8-foot cargo box. The C/K series trucks remained essentially the same vehicle during a series of conservative redesigns, until 1997, when the 1998 Silverado replaced it.
For consignment, a very well done restoration and the beneficiary of a body off frame process completed in April of 2021. A sweet crate engine, rebuilt proper 4x4 tranny, a virtually new interior, and nice 2 stage 2 tone paint. Awesome retro short bed conversion just this past year…the late 70's never looked so good.
Exterior
This truck has been converted to a factory short bed version due to the desirability for square body short bed trucks. A completely new reproduction bed, trim, tailgate, hardware, gas tank, gas sender, floor lighting etc has been put on and a nice job was done of it. A heavy rubber bed liner covers the perfectly aligned cargo box. Professionally applied paint in Cordova Brown Metallic for the uppers and lowers and gold for the center of the straight well minded gapped panels. New body/cab mounts were installed as needed. New trim pieces and cab mounts were put on to eliminate any corroded parts that existed on the previous long bed truck. All chrome was polished to excellent and halogen front headlights put in, and LED tail lighting now is on the back. A Westin Sure Step rear bumper is now on and it's rated at 8000lbs with a 5000lb hitch receiver. The truck has an electric trailer brake control and the plow part mountings were blasted and repainted. The truck comes with a Meyers 7-1/2 foot angle plow which was never used. 15-inch silver painted steel wheels sport deep dish trim rings and a chinned central hub. These are all wrapped in Kelly Edge AT rubber.
Interior
The original looking panels are completely restored and now see tan vinyl and plastic covering them along with a patch of brushed aluminum, framed by embossed Sheridan style metal trimming. The lowers are brown carpeting. Wonderful slightly textured new light tan broadcloth is reserved for the tuck and roll inserts on the bench, and bolsters are a piped slightly darker tan vinyl. The dash is pure 1979 GM with square and rectangle design that wraps brushed stainless panels around the tilt column steering wheel, and contains all new digital gauges, knobs, pulls, and climate control sliders and also Vintage Air which is all new. An aftermarket radio is AM/FM capable and belts out tunes through toe kick panel mounted speakers. This truck now has a backup camera which can be manually set to ON for when hooking up to a trailer. The screen is above the driver's visor. In the center of the hump is the shifter floating on gold carpeting flooding the floors, and above is a nice tight fuzzy gold broadcloth headliner. Looking below the dash is all new organized wiring and fuse box. Great job on the interior!
Drivetrain
Opening the hood and I'm seeing a like new mill which is weighing in as a new ATK 350ci V8 crate engine which the consignor stated puts out 290hp. The top of the mill has an Edelbrock 650cfm 4-barrel carburetor. On the back is a rebuilt Turbo-Hydramatic 350 3-speed automatic transmission. The rear axle is a 12 bolt and the ratio is unknown. Headers and a Turbo muffler system are installed so B R E A T H E out with ease…R E L A X, it's going to run just great! Ahhhhh. All new engine mounts were installed for this beautiful power plant. This package has only 150 miles on it.
Undercarriage
Due to the frame off restoration, the underside is just as nice as the topside. All rust free black POR15 coated frame, rockers, stamped floor pans, like new dual fuel tanks, dual exhaust which snakes rearward to a stage left and right post rear wheel well side exit. Seen is a totally leak and drip free transmission and oil pan. Like new power disc brakes are up front, and power drums for the rear, as well as all very clean suspension with no road dirt to be seen underneath. Both axles have been rebuilt completely. Leaf springs are on all 4 corners.
Drive-Ability
I slipped inside and was amazed at the attention to detail with the paint, interior surfaces, like new dash, and just….everything! She fired right up and to the test track we drove where this truck was nicely. It exhibited nice tight power steering, abundant and seemingly never ending acceleration, and even a smooth comfortable cruise with plenty of interior room. Braking was solid and bias free and all was working swimmingly.
From head to toe, top and bottom, every inch is near perfect in looks, fit and finish on this '79 Silverado trimmed K10 4x4 pickup and now a short bed. Get in and turn the key and you'll be the envy of your construction crew showing up to the site in this beauty. It's that nice, you could even take the wife out to an expensive dinner in it to celebrate your purchase of said truck, (although make sure there is a nice gift on the seat for her when she gets in, because after all you bought the truck…). Hmmmmmmmm…
