1973 Ford F100 Pickup

1973 Ford F-100 Pickup

Legend has it that early on in the history of Ford Motor Company a noticeable lowercase “e” completed the curl at the back of the cursive F on the Ford name.  Henry Ford, and Thomas Edison both had winter estates in Ft. Meyers, Florida, and shared ideas and cigars.  One Idea that would make Ford a real innovator was the concept of the assembly line.  This original idea came from Edison, and in deference to him and his idea, Henry Ford honored him in his early logo with that “e” on the curl, and as they say the rest is history!

For consignment, a worker truck which has a 302ci crate engine, with a consignor stated 3,000 miles clocked since installed, has a refreshed interior for the door panels and seats and all new wiring and brake system.  The truck needs some TLC on there body with some rust remediation and a fresh coat of paint.  Its bones underneath are sound and it has many years of work left in it, or paint it up and take it to a show or 2!

Exterior
The '73 F100 look is all there bathed in Wimbledon White paint.  There are some areas of surface rust and rust bubbling, particularly in the lowers, meanwhile other panels are showing some rattle can spray and previous bondo work.  The aluminum grille is nicely preserved as is the entire front of the truck.  Some of the paint issues are showing up on the front edge of the hood.  Badging and trim chrome is slightly dulled and has the beginnings of pitting.  The bed shows some scrapes and scratches, surface rust and there is invasive rust cracking the edge of the bed side near the tailgate.  The tailgate has a few dents and dings.  The wheels are standard drilled aluminum 15-inchers and are wrapped by 255/70R15 rubber all around.

Interior
A large bench seat with newer black vinyl covering stretches from new door panel to new door panel.  Black carpeting is on the floors.  The factory dash with its square and rectangle design is in front and is showing some fading and cloudiness for the gauge plastic coverings.  An aftermarket tachometer is on the column to drivers left, and below the dash is a trio of aftermarket gauges in a shiny panel.  The remainder of the dash is painted white metal.  An “Merican” flag is covering the headliner.   In the center a new Pioneer AM/FM/CD digital stereo is in.

Drivetrain
A consignor stated less than 3,000 mile clocked 302ci V8 is under the hood.  This was installed by the previous owner in 2015.  It has nice ribbed cast valve coverings and an open chromed air cleaner.  Under which is a 2-barrel carburetor and a Weiand intake manifold.   On back is an AOD 4-speed automatic and a Ford 9 inch rear axle.  Flowmaster 40 mufflers are now in for the exhale.

Undercarriage
Mostly rust free with some new steel inserted in floor pans as a repair but nicely done.  The frame is solid and all suspension is in working condition with new shocks and struts, hubs and rotors along with soft brake lines and calipers.  Power disc brakes are upfront and power drums on back.

Drive-Ability
This well-maintained truck with its newer mill lit right up and ran like a champ.  Able to accelerate nicely, it handled smoothly with no wandering, showed straight bias free braking, and was a good cruiser at highway speeds.

This classic is ready for more work if you want to do it, or more showing if you are so inclined to do that.  The beneficiary of a previous owner putting in a new engine and trans, and the current consignor putting a litany of newer parts throughout, including a new seat covering and door panels.  It just needs minor body work and some new paint.
