2004 Chevrolet Silverado Joe Gibbs Edition Pickup

2004 Chevrolet Silverado Joe Gibbs Edition Pickup

Joe Gibbs Racing, (JGR), is an American professional stock car racing organization founded by Pro Football Hall of Fame coach Joe Gibbs.  His son, J. D. Gibbs, ran the team with him until his death in 2019.  Founded in Huntersville, North Carolina, in 1992, JGR has won five Cup Series championships.  For the team's first sixteen seasons, JGR ran cars from General Motors.  During that period, the team won their first three championships: two in Pontiac Grand Prixs and one in a Chevrolet Monte Carlo.  Despite this, Joe Gibbs Racing announced during the 2007 season that they would be ending their arrangement with GM at the end of the year and begin running Toyotas the following season.  This partnership would eventually bring Toyota their first Premier series championship when Kyle Busch won in 2015.  In the NASCAR Cup Series, the team currently fields four full-time entries: the No. 11 Toyota Camry for Denny Hamlin, the No. 19 Camry for Martin Truex Jr., the No. 20 Camry for Christopher Bell, and the No. 54 Camry for Ty Gibbs.  In the Xfinity Series, the team currently fields three full-time entries as well.

Recognizing a void in Chevrolet's factory performance offerings, three-time Super Bowl-winning coach and two-time NASCAR Winston Cup Championship-winner, Joe Gibbs, teamed up with his son Coy, who is also a NASCAR competitor, to come up with their own line of performance trucks.  From the onset, the focus of the new operation, Joe Gibbs Performance, was to be on performance-oriented products to be delivered to select Chevrolet dealerships throughout the country.  Our truck for consignment is one of those trucks, and an extended cab to boot.  It's got all the amenities that we've come to know and love from the bowtie brigade, but with racier looks, special JGR wheels, a custom fascia, and an added tailgate spoiler.  This example sports the venerable 5.3 liter V8 and is rip roaring and ready for you to drive it out of our Hallowed Halls.

Exterior
This is an absolutely rust free truck and is bathed in its original factory black paint which is looking wonderfully preserved with nary a dent or ding when even looking closely.  A few stone chips pepper the finish, but nothing out of the ordiandy for the age and miles accrued on this hauler.  This long and menacing truck uses very little chrome, with it only making an appearance on the emblems and tubular step running boards.  From the custom body matching front bumper with deeply inset fog lights to the black trimmed mesh grille this truck has a sinister look when viewed from the front.  Being a crew cab, a smaller swinging door directly behind the main doors offers easy access for the crew.  Tinted windows are all around, and black mirrors and door handles are embedded or attached to this field of black paint.  The entire bed is covered with a clean black spray in liner and shows some light usage.  On the back is another blacked out bumper and a towing setup below with a JGR spoiler hovering just above on the tailgate.  Gibbs designed 20-inch Hyper Silver wheels are wrapped by like new Hankook radials in 275/55R20 format.  Mean, lean and ready to haul…some ass.

Interior
Full on ebony leather covers the front big comfy buckets and the foldable rear bench all of these showing off with just the right amount of age wrinkling.  We note JGR embroidery in the head rests and a wide console takes up the space between the front buckets and provides storage room and then some.  Just ahead are...you guessed it, more storage cubbies as the console rises to meet the dash.  The dash itself has plenty of black accenting throughout, and as many conveniences with dual zone A/C, AM/FM/CD changer stereo, cruise control, power locks and windows, and a remote keyless entry.  A very clean black dash insert houses all the necessary JGR silver face gauges and all are working perfectly.  Some blue LCD readouts are seen for the radio and odometer and a Joe Gibbs Racing plaque dresses the dash front nicely.  Above a nice tight fuzzy gray headliner is attached and fairly clean black carpeting with protective rubber floor mats on the floors.

Drivetrain
Under the clean hood is a clean engine bay.  Shoehorned within this clean space is a 5.3 liter V8 fed with EFI.  There is a 4L65E 4-speed automatic transmission on the back and a 10 bolt rear axle.  Boogity Boogity Boogity, let's go racing boys!!!

Undercarriage
This has been well kept with some road dirt and slight surface rust showing in various locations but certainly nothing remarkable.  Front independent coil springs and rear leaf springs provide the ride and power disc brakes are up front while power drums adorn the rear axle.  A stainless steel exhaust will last a good long time on this truck.

Drive-Ability
A quick starter and off with plenty of power to spare to the test track.  Nice endless acceleration, good power on the low end, and great easy steering and smooth handling.  Braking is excellent, and the cruise is just as comfy.  All working functionality with all the power accessories.  The leather is very nice to sit in as well.

Here we have a limited edition used pickup which looks like new and runs as such.  Meant to fill the gap that Chevrolet was lacking during this era, a real performance truck from a real performance shop.  A well cared for, high optioned truck with a crew cab and spray lined bed and some Joe Gibbs Racing provenance to boot.  It's time to go to work and boss that crew around after pacing and racing a few laps!
