1999 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 4x4

1999 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 4x4

The Jeep Wrangler is the direct descendant of the 1940 Willys Quad prototype vehicle that was commissioned by the United States Army and eventually developed into the 1941-1945 Willys MB.  The rugged, capable, and cheap MB was everywhere during World War II.  At some point, the MB took on the nickname "Jeep."

For consignment, a title verified 69,855 actual mile 1999 Wrangler Sahara that has undergone a full restoration and has some snappy add-ons.  Not the least of which are a 6-inch long arm lift kit, an ARB air compressor, air locking front axle, Superior rear axles, some easy access side steps, Bilstein shocks and a new front bumper.  It offers up a twin tone broadcloth interior which is all clean and nice, and an upgraded stereo sound system.  Sing with me: “ Let's get a little mud on the tires.”  “Climb every mountain…”

Exterior
Black miles deep paint is slathered on the steel for this rust free body, which maintains the factory gaps and displays nicely with the hefty front bumper with an extra protecting grille bar and some pull hooks.  The lift kit puts this truck way up there so be thankful for that side steps have been added on to help you get in.  The truck rides on 15-inch cast and machined aluminum wheels wrapped in 35x12.50R15 BFG mud slingers.  The long running and instantly recognizable Jeep grille leads the way and is flanked by traditional round headlights.  The exterior latched hood leads back to the slightly raked windshield which gives support to a nice black open cockpit top, which protects the passenger compartment with a full on roll bar and should foul weather come your way or consignor is including a hardtop so this is now a year round crawler.  Steel doors on the sides, which can easily be removed for that full open air experience add to the Jeep experience.  A note to the full-sized spare hanging off the back mount for it, and is ready to step things up should you experience a flat.  A hitch mount is on the rear bumper, and a large stainless exhaust pipe from a Flowmaster exhaust peeks out on the passengers side. “Search high and low...”

Interior
A climb inside and we see cloth making up the high backed curvaceous bucket seats.  Smooth charcoal gray broadcloth makes up the seating surfaces which have been fitted with contrasting tan bolsters and show as very clean.  The rear bench also shows in charcoal gray cloth and appears as nearly new.  The dash utilizes more charcoal and this mixes with some more tan plastic and presents very nicely.  Factory gauges are in and the center is now fitted with a Premier AM/FM/CD/Satellite stereo.  A short armed T-handle shifter for the transmission and some 4x4 buttons to switch modes are next to the shifter.  Also, remotes for the air lock front axle and the compressor are in the shifter panel which is all inserted into a tan console running between the seats.  In the rear storage compartment we note multiple speakers and even above on the rollbar sound comes from this area too.  All floors are covered with clean tan carpeting, even the small rear storage “bed” aft of the rear bench. Very nice overall interior.  “Follow every byway…”

Drivetrain
Under that hood is a factory 4.0L I-6 cylinder being fed air and long gone dinosaurs via EFI.  There is a 4-speed automatic attached to the back, and power goes to 4.10 front and rear axles.

Undercarriage
All very clean under here where we run into some 4 link with coil spring suspension, a 6-inch long arm lift kit, new Bilstein shocks and a Fox steering stabilizer, so there is no high speed death wobble, which is known to be a problem with these lifted Jeeps.  New power disc brakes for the front, and new power drum rear brakes with new wheel cylinders and drums.  “Fjord every stream…”

Drive-Ability
This baby fired right up, ran smoothly, and all 4x4 gears worked perfectly.  A bit of a ride, but based on the fact it's a Jeep, things were pretty good.  The tires sing a bit when you cruise, and unfortunately the Classic Auto Mall test area does not have anything over 10 feet in altitude to try to climb.  Just an A+ build with everything working swimmingly, including the added AC. I noticed the airbag light was on, so you may want to investigate this further.

A fully built and documented, all good condition TJ Wrangler Sahara Package, complete with knobby BFG tires, as well as a nice interior and an optional hardtop comes along for the 4x4 ride.  This truck is ready to take you where no man has gone before, or at least the wilds of this country where you can reach new heights and sing its praises. Go for it, If you're not living life on the edge, you're taking up too much space.
