1954 Chevrolet 210 Sedan

The Chevrolet Two-Ten, or 210, was the midrange model of the Chevrolet car from 1953 to 1957.  It took its name by shortening the production series number, (2100), by one digit in order to capitalize on the 1950's trend toward numerical auto names. The numerical designation '"210"' was also sporadically used in company literature.  It replaced the Styleline DeLuxe model available in previous years. The Two-Ten was discontinued after the 1957 model year to be replaced by the Biscayne.  The Two-Ten shared the wedge-shaped side trim with the Bel Air, but unlike the Bel Air, (which had the wedge filled with an aluminum trim panel).  The Two-Ten's wedge was painted either body color, or top color with the optional two-tone paint package. "Chevrolet" in script was mounted inside the wedge.

If you are thinking about owning a classic Chevrolet form the mid 1950's, you know, something you can hop into and go for a cruise down to your local McDonald's, (it started in 1954,) or just wasting gas cruising listening to Bill Haley and The Comets, or maybe showing off your girl's new poodle skirt, all in near showroom style, then this 210 will grab you and never let go.  Immaculately kept, it is hard to see any major fault on this 2-family owned patina survivor.  Purchased new in Bally, PA and garage kept by the original family until the early 1980's, this car came to our consignor in believed to be unrestored condition and is giving us a glimpse of exactly what was cruising the boulevards and highways in the mid 1950's. 

Exterior
This car was purchased by the consigner in early 1980's from the original owner's family and shows in the factory color Bermuda Green for the lowers, and a top highlighted with India Ivory.  Overall the paint shows slight dulling but is in very good condition with no visible rusting on any of the straight panels.  We do however note some scrapes, dings and scratches along with the front clip being a slightly darker shade of Bermuda Green, but things are still looking very good.  From its flying bird hood ornament to the headlight bezels, bumpers and mirrors and handles, all chrome on this car has a very slight patina, but retains its shine as well.  Looking at the profile we see a front to rear trim spear that slices right through the mid-section of this car.  A bullet-like bulging rear quarter has a large trim piece curving with its profile on the bottom, and a small topper spear that looks rearward.  Also breaking up the Bermuda Green are chromed rocker trim pieces.  Car manufacturers of this era quickly realized that chrome sells, and this car has an abundance of it, including around all windows, and completely wrapping the car at the belt line.  Bringing up the rear is a large bumper with guards in the center, oval tail/backup lights and Chevrolet badging and script in your grandmother's handwriting.  15-inch wide whites are on all 4 corners and are covered with dog dish bowtie chromed covers.

Interior
A swing of the doors and we see some early jet age influence in the form of light green and dark green interplay within shapes that emulate Yeager's Bell X-1.  Also noted, we are all clean and chromed in the handle and crank department.  Moving inside we see 2 large benches, with both stretching from side pillar to side pillar. These are covered in light green striped broadcloth for the seating surfaces and have some use of a solid dark green cloth on the backs and bolsters.  This cloth appears in excellent condition and is believed to be original.  A two-tone dash in dark and light green presents as original with plenty of vertical ribbed chrome trim, and a nice clean instrument cluster, all in operating condition.  The headliner is tight ins original mohair and has a warm faded with age look that presents a beautiful contrast to the seat coverings.

Drivetrain
Sitting within an unrestored all original engine bay is a 235ci inline 6-cylinder engine.  This has a 1-barrel carburetor atop, and a 3-speed manual transmission on back. The very back has a 3.70 gear rear.

Undercarriage
Underneath shows passage of time in a dry environment with slight surface rust and plenty of black steel with a patina finish.  Just a tiny bit of surface rust is seen on the lower inside doors and we note a stock style single exhaust system running rearward from the engine.  Independent coil spring suspension in front, and leaf spring suspension in the rear with recently rebuilt 4-wheel drum brakes makes up this simple undercarriage.

Drive-Ability
A comfortable interior with a 3-speed that shifts smoothly, and a car that drives very nicely.  A great cruiser that has nice power as one goes up through the gears, and this car handles nicely despite its weight.  No noted inoperable functions were found during my time behind the wheel.

Literally owned by 1 family from 1954 to the early 1980's, then picked up by our consigner who has continued to give the car the diligent care and maintenance it requires.  A nice find that is believed to be unrestored and holding up well, including the glorious broadcloth seats, and an all original look just like it had in 1954.  A great 210 that has had a life well lived.
