1997 Lincoln Town Car Signature Series

1997 Lincoln Town Car Signature Series

The second-generation Town Car was a sales success and became one of the best-selling full-size U.S. luxury sedans.  During the late 1980s and early 1990s, Town Car sales regularly exceeded 100,000 units with 120,121 Town Cars being sold in 1994 alone.  Following the discontinuation of the Cadillac Fleetwood by General Motors after 1996, the Lincoln Town Car became the longest-length regular-production sedan sold in the United States.

For consignment, an original, 2 owner, unmolested, higher mileage 1997 Lincoln Town Car that has been well maintained and has plenty of life left in it.  Little has been changed since the curved shaped redesign from 1993 and in very good condition with a title verified 104,801 miles, runs nicely, and provides its passengers with a classy comfortable ride.

Exterior
Showing some scuffs, scrapes and paint chip offs at the tops of the body side moldings, this original pure as the driven snow White paint coats the exterior steel panels that are mostly straight, and mind their gaps throughout.  In front, a nice vertical polished vertical waterfall striped grille is flanked by aerodynamic built-in headlights, parking lights and turn signals.  Badging is correct and clean on the grille with the Lincoln gunsight hood ornament above.  Following a long hood back to a large 4 door passenger compartment, electronic digital locks are seen on the driver's door up front.  The rear “C” pillar rests within the 3 year old camel cloth full roof covering.  A thin chrome trim strip runs a lap around this big long car and shows nicely but with some delamination of the outer clear plastic covering.  A spacious trunk and rounded wrap-around tail lights, and a body matching neoprene bumper complete the exterior.  Standard spoked Lincoln badged wheels are all around wrapped in like new thin whitewall rubber.

Interior
Up front a digital dash in blue LCD form sits within a light tan plastic frame with a wood burl strip underneath and is surrounded by stitched tan leather padding.  Conveniences such as digital climate control, an AM/FM/Cassette player, cruise control, power seat adjustments, power windows, power mirrors, power door locks are noted to keep you in the lap of luxury.  A large split bench made up of two spacious buckets with built in armrests stretch across the front, and a large comfortable spacious luxurious bench across the back.  These are all covered in plentiful and firm foam and wrapped in tan leather with the fronts showing just the right amount of age wear.  Tan carpet floods the floor and is in good condition, and the clean headliner is stretched tight across the expansive roof.

Drivetrain
A 4.6 Liter SOHC fuel injected V8 sits within a dusty and patinaed engine bay but shows with very little corrosion.  It is connected to a 4-speed automatic 4R70W transmission which sends power rearward to a Ford 8.8" conventional axle weighing in with 3.08 gears.

Undercarriage
Presenting structurally sound, this undercarriage shows surface rust only on uncoated steel surfaces.  Floor pans, rockers, toe kicks and frame are all totally rust free in body matching white and the under door framing is near perfect.  Providing the luxurious ride is an independent coil spring suspension in the front and a 4 link with airbags on the rear.  Power disc brakes are noted on all 4 corners as is power steering.  Dual exhaust quiets down the 4.6 Liter to barely a whisper and is surface rusted original equipment.  We note the engine and transmission remain leak free, a testament to the owners fastidious maintenance.

Drive-Ability
A quick starter all did very nicely on our test drive, had my crack decoder and dear friend not been along on this drive I may have had to strip to my skivvies and enjoy the lush leather against my posterior, (one of the benefits of working at Classic Auto Mall).  All smooth ride, shifting, and acceleration.  Ease of operation is a definite plus for this big skate.

Nicely presenting, clean, tasteful colored, Lincoln.  If you are looking for the classic mid '90's ride your grandfather loved, then you need to come into the halls of Classic Auto Mall and have a look at this luxury cruiser.  Well maintained and cared for, it led a good life, and it is ready to perform a lifetime of service for you and yours.
