1955 Ford Courier Sedan Delivery

For those unaware the Ford Courier nameplate was used on a few different distinct vehicles from 1952 – 2013.  For North America these were primarily the 1950's Sedan Delivery variant and the 70s and 80s Mazda B-Series Pickup trucks.  In general, most US and Canada enthusiasts more closely associate the Courier name with the pickup, however among vintage and classic car collectors the sedan delivery variety is also well known.  Sedan Delivery vehicles were heavily used in the early part of the century before WWII by all types of businesses including, plumbers, bakers, delivery services and more.  There were even old school ambulances made from sedan delivery vehicles, like the iconic Ghostbusters rig.  Today cargo vans are much more commonly used, however you will still see these types of vehicles used in specific applications such as a hearse.  The Ford Courier Sedan Delivery was produced for 8 years in the 1950's with very little change over that time period.  Small changes to the rear storage access were the main difference between early models and later versions.  The Ford Courier Sedan Delivery was available with both 6 cylinder and V8 engines and most commonly came equipped with the “Ford-O-Matic” automatic transmission.

For consignment, a rare bird in the form of a '55 Ford Courier Sedan Delivery.  A drivable project car with no back seat for more cargo area and bathed in gotta love it 50's blue and white now with a 312ci V8 there is plenty of power for the haul, or delivery in classic style.  And with this rear cargo area windows filled in plenty of room to slather your business name on there and attract some attention.

Exterior 
A former Missouri car, this delivery came to our consignor fully sandblasted and in primer.  SInce then the car and its well minded gaps have been bathed in a nice coating of 2 tone Cadet Blue with Snowshoe White paint scheme.  Breaking up and highlighting the panels are shiny nuggets of chrome trimmings and big bumpers on front and back.  Atop the hood is a jet ornament, which was definitely the theme of times to come.  Just below is a perfect cloisonné Ford shield badge.  On the front quarter are the beginnings of the iconic Fairlane swoop spear which starts just above the headlights, and runs towards the mid door where it takes a dive downward then levels off to trim the delineation between the blue and white.   Black surrounds are on for the windshield and on the beltline is a thin trim that wraps around the entire passenger and cargo compartment. which ends at the base of each front A-pillar.  On back are 2 simple round tail lights with a pointed backup triangular shaped ribbed panel just above.  The blue covers the lowers and sides as well as the roof of the car, and the white is on the hood, upper sides and top of the side hinged tailgate.  What a great combo.  The body panels do not show any rust bubbling, merely a few dents and dings here and there.  A shout out to all 4 corners with their 15-inch and 17-inch polished American Racing Torque Thrust wheels wrapped in like new blackwall rubber.  I've got it made in the shade.

Interior
Like new textured vinyl in blue for the twin front low back front bucket seats  Mix in some blue metal framing for the tubs and some low pile blue carpeting on the front floors and we are looking snazzy.  Fronting these luscious seats is a metal dash in all original style.  A blue dash top, front and lowers matches the seats.  A crescent gauge cluster has black backgrounds, and just below a  smattering of knobs and pulls.  A bakelite big black steering wheel fronts the dash, and in dash central are round temp slider panels, radio and a clock, not unlike the tail lighting and looking jet age fer sur.  The cargo area is all unfinished metal so the sky, and your imagination are the only limits here of what could be.

Drivetrain
Under that big hood, is a non-original 312ci V8 engine looking nicely restored on its surfaces.  It shows in a painted red block with red cylinder heads and black Ford badged valve coverings all with a slight touch of patina.  It is topped by a fairly new Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor, and on the back is a 3 speed manual transmission with overdrive pushing power rearward to a Dana 44 4.27 geared rear axle.  Showing on top of the mill is an Edelbrock chrome lidded and open element air cleaner in place of the factory oil bath unit.  'Cmon snake lets rattle!

Undercarriage
Nicely preserved noting some mild to heavy surface rust depending on what you are looking at.  New front floor pans are noted and the only invasive rust to catch our eyes are a few pin sized holes in the rear flooring.  Otherwise the floor pans and rockers are showing some surface rust, patina and road dirt from many years of accumulation.  Independent coil springs for the front suspension and leaf springs are on the back.  Drum brakes are noted all around.  This all razzes my berries.

Drive-Ability
A quick starter, and just a dreamy car to drive.  It idled like a dream, and it was a good dream.  The car accelerated smoothly going through the gears and up to a smooth cruising speed.  The ride is excellent and on point for a car of this era.  Cornering is good for 1955, and stopping is very quick with the drum brakes.  The radio is non-functional and we noted the heater blower, auxiliary gauges, and clock did not function.  Also, the tail and brake lights did not illuminate.  Motion the car hop over, I need a malt!

2 tone blue and white for this Ford Sedan Delivery easter egg, retaining its shine, and not often seen in this day and age.  A blank canvas if you will that is drivable and enjoyable as it with an upgraded 312ci engine, a promo piece if there ever was one for your business bestowing our Hallowed Halls here at Classic Auto Mall, and ready for the turn-key taking.  I'm digging it.  All 2 doors of it.  Towney.
