1930 Ford Model A Pickup

1930 Ford Model A Pickup

The Ford Model A was a huge success for the Ford Motor Company and is the first car that comes to mind when many think of early American steel.  It single handedly spawned America's love affair with trucks and laid the foundation for what would become one of the best selling vehicles of all time.

For consignment, a rodded Ford Model A pickup truck from 1930.  Clearly this truck has been garage kept and shows with no rust, just nice panels of straight steel and fiberglass and shiny chrome 1930 pickup truck oozes class.  Mustang II front suspension, chrome independent rear suspension, and a newer 350ci V8 to push it along and not fool around.  Check out the clean interior, press down the gas, and you will soon be haulin'...ass

Exterior
Yes, it's a 1930 Ford pickup, but with its straight exterior steel cab panels, all rust free, and looking much like the original as it would have appeared in 1930, we note consistent gaps, and little fault with it overall.  Nice matte black paint covers the cab, as well as the bed.  Within the side cowling removed, the hood is the hot spot for the gobs of power being produced.  This steel runs forward and is fronted by a nicely chrome radiator corral and mesh grille.  This has a FORD badge on it and the radiator cap is a Boyce Motormeter piece.  It is flanked by a single tie bar connected headlight on either side, sporting shiny bezels and rounded cases.  Black fiberglass fenders are attached to the front and rear and are held together by a common running board with textured grips in the centers.  Encircling the curvalicious fenders and running boards is a thin strip of chrome trimming to add to the WOW factor.  The fenders are also very nice on the paint front, with no cracking seen and a full steel roof has been added.  On the rear is the steel pickup tub.  This black box has been carefully lined with deeply polished urethane coated oak with stainless dividers on the flooring, meanwhile the sides remain deep dark black.  A Ford badged tailgate, with faux bullet hole resides just above custom rectangular tail lights and the chrome laden rear suspension. 14 and 15-inch polished American Racing Torque Thrust wheels are seen on all 4 corners, and add highlight to the sinister black motif.

Interior
A swing of the original doors and we see some nifty light and dark gray suede-like and vinyl panels with the door actuators and window cranks in nice chrome that float within these fields, however the windows are power actuated.  Turning our attention to the upwardly curved metal steel gray dash, it now has white face Dolphin gauges underneath the arch along with a few lights, knobs and the power window actuators.  A late model tilt adjustable Ford steering column, and a 2 spoke thickly rimmed steering wheel fronts the dash.  Body hugging soft grayish purple velour bucket seats occupy the space between the doors and remain in very nice condition.  Gray broadcloth takes over for the vertical rear wall of the cab and continues for the stitched headliner.  Up front, on top of the headliner is a custom overhead console that houses the aftermarket AM/FM/Cassette player.  The floors are covered with nice speckled gray carpet and a short armed shifter grows just in front of the seats.

Drivetrain
A 350ci engine in V8 format graces the open air engine bay and appears as fresh as the day it was installed.  It's able to be viewed with ease as it is simply beautifully done with its silver headers, ribbed and polished valve covers, chrome alternator, and chrome trimmed air cleaner assemblies.  No rust here, just an electric radiator fan, and surgical cleanliness are seen.  This mill is topped with a pair of Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetors atop a polished tunnel ram intake manifold.  This automotive jewelry is backed up by a TH350 3-speed automatic, and way back is a 4.11 geared inch rear axle.

Undercarriage
Simply swanky with black painted floor pans, rockers and under the running boards.  This provides a nice background for the straight black steel frame also with not a hint of rust.  Nice chrome bars and tubes are on the rear to assist the independent Corvette suspension and up front is Mustang II style suspension to provide the ride.  Power disc brakes are on all 4 corners and glasspack style mufflers provide the flow through exhaust and awesome rumble this truck provides when running.

Drive-Ability
A very thunderous fire up, and I was excited to get my foot into this one and get to the test track.  Here it gave me plenty of enjoyment with very good acceleration, excellent handling, and smooth shifting.  It can also cruise and has the ever-present thunderous roar to the exhaust as we traveled along.   No squeaks or creaks, and it is hard to believe we are in a 1930 Model A modified skate.  Also, worth mentioning all was working including those 4 wheel disc brakes, which brought me to an abrupt straight stop when needed.

This build provides an excellent experience on many levels.  Quality of build, fit and finish, power, visual bling, and interior comfort.  A true turnkey truck ready to go and show and turn a few heads in the process.  Not built to be a show queen, but a full on drivable dream that is still capable of winning shows as it did in the past, now gracing our Hallowed Halls of the Classic Auto Mall, which you need to hurry on down to to be able to experience this and others which tends to create awe!
