2006 Ford Mustang GT Coupe

2006 Ford Mustang GT Coupe

S197 is another name for the fifth generation of Mustang, produced between 2005-2014.  New Edge Mustangs preceded this generation, and S550 Mustangs followed it.  For the S197 Mustang, Ford decided to use D2C, a new rear wheel drive platform.  This decision was made right after a letter-writing campaign saved the Mustang from being replaced by the Ford Probe.  Enthusiasts talked about the uniqueness of the Mustang.  This may have informed the decision to not use the D2C platform on other vehicles.  All of this contributed to the S197's unique appearance.  Ford designers looked back at what had made the Mustang an icon in the first place and tried to recreate the details Mustang enthusiasts loved.  The S197's style is described as retro-futuristic.  Many of the exterior features are adapted from the first-generation Mustangs.  The rake of the coupe is reminiscent of the first fastback.  Window louvers are another retro-styling detail that feeds into the muscle car look.  The overall S197 look is clean and chiseled.  The S197 borrows from classic Mustangs but doesn't run the risk of being mistaken for them.  The wheelbase expanded dramatically, creating a long, low, and lean profile.  Early reviewers noted that the fifth-generation Mustang looked like it had muscle. -Thx to CJPonyparts.com

For consignment, a GT coupe version of the Mustang.  This car has a screaming paint job, black tape stripes, comes with the Shaker stereo, has been garage kept during the time our consignor has owned it and has only logged an astonishingly low 20,060 actual miles.  This is an S197 chassis GT, and in near showroom condition, remaining all stock and retaining the right look, sound and stance that the designers intended.

Exterior
Screaming Yellow with black tape stripes come together to create the menacing look for this muscle car.  With the exception of a few scuffs on the lower front valance, things are looking fine and dandy with retina searing paint and laser straight gaps.  Ford went all out for the design, reminiscent of the early models it just looks beefier, and more refined on the line aspect.  The front of the car is more chiseled “aero” designed, and has an integrated body matching bumper, blackened grille with fog lights, a black lower air dam, and the ubiquitous galloping pony.  All these styling cues can be seen from way back in 1965 with its grille shape, and rear 3 bar tail light configuration.  A long smooth hood fronts backed out trim around beautiful glass.  Blackened and matte sprayed side view mirrors, some minimalistic but clean badging, and 17-inch bright machine polished aluminum wheels are wrapped in blackwall Pirelli P-Zero Nero 235/55ZR17 rubber from 2006, leading us to believe these are the factory installed units.

Interior
Dark Charcoal leather and vinyl come together to make up the upholstery for the front buckets and rear 2 plus 2 seats which are like new.  The driver's bucket is powered, as are the windows and locks.  A very simple dash houses another throwback cue, more from 1967/1968 than 1965, in the form of the dual circular embedded instruments behind the steering wheel, although the 65 version utilized a horizontal speedometer.  An AM/FM/CD Shaker 500 stereo system, A/C, and traction control fill the center swooped down section of the dash.   The faux brushed aluminum shifter surround and T-handle shifter sits in a center console that makes its way past the buckets to the rear 2+2's.  Nice black carpet has black factory floor mats which protect the carpet and a clean black felt headliner hangs above

Drivetrain
A 300hp capable 4.6 Liter, 3 valve, V8 with EFI, attached to a 5R55S 5-speed automatic transmission puts power rearward to an 8.8” 3.31 geared TracLoc rear axle.  All clean and green, (yellow actually), in this unmolested engine bay.

Undercarriage
Typifying a 20,060 mile car, with only surface rust on the untreated components, and looking just like it did coming down the assembly line at Flat Rock.  An independent coil spring front suspension and 3-link rear suspension with coil springs have the added benefit of a factory panhard bar.  Power disc brakes are noted all around as is power steering and for the big exhale this pony breathes through the OEM installed mufflers and dual exhaust.

Drive-Ability
Our muscle car crack decoder took this baby out to the track and he had an absolute ball.  I did not think he was going to return, but alas he did and reported with a grin it performed great and is all buttoned up on the drive-ability front.  Sometimes it's nice to get behind the wheel of a stock car, especially one with such low miles.  All was working as it should and the interior still has that new car smell.

A well presenting and powerful running GT in yellow with black decal stripes, a nice homage to the first Shelby GT-350's of yore.  A low mileage, pampered, garage kept car, presented for your enjoyment here at Classic Auto Mall.
