1994 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Convertible

1994 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Convertible

The Z28 code was the RPO code they used when the 67 Camaro was to be ordered with an engine that met the specs of the SCCA Racing.  That engine had to have less than 305 Cubic Inches, so, Chevy took a 327 block, installed a 283 crank, and got a 302.  This was used for both the 67 and 68 model years.

For consignment, a 1994 version of the Camaro Z28 convertible.  This car comes to us with an enticing title verified 64,428 actual miles, an LT1 350ci V8 engine, very nice paint and interior, a host of UMI suspension upgrades, full LED lighting inside and out, a 1 year old convertible top, and a rebuilt A/C system, along with its long list of sporty attributes, good looks and great performance…Hey!! It's a Camaro!

Exterior
This version of the sporty Camaro is bathed in Polo Green Metallic and has straight steel with well minded gaps throughout.  A neatly shaped front still retaining the throwback look from the originals but with a much more aero twist shows up front with no chrome, just Polo Green neoprene and some black accenting around the grille and headlights.  Up top, covering the passengers is a 1 year old tan canvas power convertible top with a rear defogger equipped glass rear window.  Just behind this is a short decklid that leads us right up to the rear spoiler which neatly curves with the rear deck and melts into the quarter panels.  On back, a rounded tail with seamless taillights and a black band with the C A M A R O badge embossed in the center of this black panel.  Snazzy aluminum multi-spoke wheels with a saw blade pattern are now on all 4 corners and wrapped with like new rubber.  The Polo Green paint is all looking very deep with very few faults.

Interior
A swing of the tan paneled sporty looking doors and we note plenty of aero molded plastic and vinyl mixing with some suede broadcloth and carpeting, a pull and some power function buttons, and we are anxious to slip inside.  Doing so we slip into nicely shaped high back buckets that sport smooth dark tan vinyl bolsters and diagonally pattern broadcloth stitching throughout the inserts.  These are looking not often used and in back a bench which is basically 2 more buckets split apart by the long hump making its way rearward.  These are in excellent condition as well.  More beautifully molded and sculpted vinyl for the center console with working armrest leads up to the dash with an uncracked OEM dash pad, which both make use of the undulating line where nothing is squared off, (gosh I'm glad the 80's styling is gone!).  Dash central holds the heat/AC knobs along with an aftermarket Pioneer stereo with backup camera.  All clean and good looking for the dash instruments, especially with the newly installed LED lighting.  Fronting this is a custom NRG steering wheel and clean tan carpeting flooding the floors.

Drivetrain
Under the hood is a 350ci LT-1 V8 that has the oil changed 400 miles ago and has the ability to punch out over 275hp.  EFI is feeding the fossils to the modified mill, and on back a 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission propels the car forward.  Headers are on, and a 10-bolt 3.23 geared axle also aids with this moving forward task!  The engine bay is unrestored and looking good for its age with a UMI strut tower brace and recently changed power steering fluid.  Our consignor notes that the transmission was serviced at 63,000 miles and the rear axle was treated to the same at 63,500 miles.

Undercarriage
A light peppering of surface rust is seen on a few cast suspension parts, but all unremarkable.  Otherwise, stamped steel floor pans and rockers with some light patina fromm age but no rust on these items are seen.  Independent coil spring front suspension with KYB struts, and a torque arm with coil springs are in back.  We note UMI subframe connectors, UMI rear control arms and panhard bar, and a UMI torque arm relocation bracket.  Power disc brakes are all around, and a Pacesetter headers leads down to 3" exhaust with a Flowmaster muffler sans catalytic converter giving this engine plenty of pipe to exhale freely.

Drive-Ability
This car fired right up and on the test track performed as expected, with all functions working.  Having driven many a Camaro here at Classic Auto Mall, I'd have to say I did notice more power than usual coming from this one, so much so that I could say the force is strong with this one!  The only flaw to note is a slight clunk from the UMI torque arm relocation bracket, but our consignor states this is normal.

Words like private collection, rotisserie restoration, frame off, time capsule, or survivor all mean a top notch quality car, but in the case of this one the car is meant to be driven and enjoyed.  Nearly perfect interior, excellent exterior, plenty of muscle for the power, an adept handler thanks to the upgraded suspension, and a comfortable cruiser if you so desire.  Going topless is a bonus, and one almost cannot go wrong with this low mileage pampered green baby.
