2000 Chevrolet S10 Xtreme LS Pickup

2000 Chevrolet S10 Xtreme LS Pickup

When we think of GM sport trucks, several legendary models come to mind, including the Chevrolet C1500 454 SS, the GMC Syclone and Typhoon, the or the GMT-800-era Silverado SS.  An oft-forgotten example was the Chevrolet S-10 Xtreme.  Produced from 1999 to 2004, the S-10 Xtreme was Chevrolet's answer to the era's growing demand for sport trucks at an entry-level price.  That price point, which was just over $15,000, represented about a 15 percent price bump over a base model S-10.  But the Xtreme got a lot of upgrades that Chevrolet figured would attract younger buyers.  Those upgrades included an aggressive body kit, model-specific 16-inch wheels, and ZQ8 suspension, which notably lowered the ride height.  Interestingly, Chevy offered the Xtreme on both the regular cab and extended cab S-10 models, and with both fleetside or flareside bed options.  Interestingly, the Chevrolet S-10 Xtreme has largely fallen into obscurity, and remaining examples do not seem to command any notable price premiums over standard S-10 units.  However, we suspect that some amount of nostalgia, perhaps from our former high school parking lot hoons, will eventually give these trucks something of a bump in prestige and prices. Who knows, maybe the S-10 Xtreme will one day be considered alongside the 454 SS as the cool retro sport truck to have.  -Thx To GMAuthority.com

Lets get extreme with this latest consignment to roll through the doors of our Hallowed Halls.  An 85,254 title verified mileage 2000 Chevrolet S-10 Xtreme LS pickup with the optional flareside bed.  This one has been owned by our consignor for the last 7 years and during that time has always been garage kept.  It provides some eye-catching good looks with its miles deep paint, lowered factory suspension and snappy wheels.  Let's get our groove on and keep the mini-truck craze alive and kicking right here in our South mallway.

Exterior
Our Victory Red example retains its shine and shows nicely without any rust or dents.  The flaws in the finish are unremarkable save for a few chips on the neoprene lower body skirts and the deep end of the pool monochromatic paint is the star of the show and is only broken up by the black window surround and chrome Xtreme badging on the lower fenders and tail gate.  Rectangular headlights and wedge shaped corner lights reside within the Victory Red grille.  Just below is a body matching steel bumper and fog light equipped factory ground effect kit lower valance.  Breaking up the square cab sides and fenders is the curvalicious flareside bed that holds within a black plastic drop in bedliner and is equipped with black step pads both in front and behind the wheel flares.  Encircling the body down low is the slightly flared out body kit that comes right from Chevrolet adding a touch of muscle to this mini hauler.  The tail view shows us tall wrap-around tail lights, the smooth tailgate and a snappy Victory Red roll pan below.  16-inch multi spoke aluminum wheels are wrapped with 245/50R16 raised Hankook rubber from the 32nd week of 2015.

Interior
Behind the lightly tinted glass are charcoal gray molded plastic panels with black actuators and cranks as well as a nice red vinyl upper inserts.  Below all of this are storage compartments and the factory speakers.  The original GM dash continues with more use of the charcoal gray molded plastic accenting for the dash front surrounds and faux wood surrounds for the vents, mixed with black molded inserts for the instrument cluster, factory AM/FM/Cassette stereo and climate control dials.  More charcoal gray vinyl is making up the bolsters and red vinyl inserts of the body hugging buckets with their headrests and a fold down armrest is between the seats.  Charcoal gray carpeting is flooding the floors and presents with some light soiling and color fade.  The long armed black shifter resides on the carpeted hump along with a dual cupholder equipped consolette.  Above a large gray fuzzy broadcloth headliner covers the interior ceiling.

Drivetrain
A factory 2.2 Liter 4 cylinder sits in an original unrestored engine bay.  This has EFI and bolted to the back of this mill is a T5 5-speed manual transmission for those of us who like rowing the oars.  10 bolt with 3.08 gearing is the axle designation and all under the hood is looking very nice with a lightly patined finish.

Undercarriage
A light peppering of surface rust coats most of the untreated steel on this undercarriage, although it remains structurally sound.  The frame and floor pans are rust free, however we note heavy invasive rust taking over the inner rocker on the passenger's side.  Power disc brakes are in front, and power drums on the back.  Suspension is independent coil spring up front and leaf spring on back.

Drive-Ability
This truck and it's 2.2 liters fired right up and driving was a pleasure.  All comfy on the ergonomic front for the interior, smooth acceleration and nice cornering.  Fully functional, fully capable and fully enjoyable...2 thumbs up!

A well cared for and nicely presented example of a S10 with a economical 2.2 liter engine.  Some factory installed lowered suspension, nifty lower body cladding, and a wonderful monochromatic finish will have you smiling as you go down the road, of course all the while hauling your cargo.
