1988 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS

1988 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS

Regarded as one of the most significant drivers in NASCAR history, Earnhardt won a total of 76 Winston Cup races over the course of his career, including the 1998 Daytona 500.  He also earned seven NASCAR Winston Cup championships, tying for the most all-time with Richard Petty.  This feat, accomplished in 1994, was not equaled again for 22 years until Jimmie Johnson in 2016.  His aggressive driving style earned him the nicknames "The Intimidator", "The Man in Black", and "The Count of Monte Carlo".  Also, his success at the restrictor plate tracks of Daytona and Talladega earned him the nickname, "Mr. Restrictor Plate".

For consignment, a 2 owner 1988 Monte Carlo which has logged a mere 17,577 title verified actual miles in it's 35 years.  It is all original including the tires, it has its original window sticker, dealership paperwork, a peppy 305ci V8 and automatic transmission.  Clearly always garaged and still smelling like new inside, this adult driven sample is an original if there ever was one!

Exterior
With the nickname of “Intimidator” and a long history of racing and winning with the Chevrolet Monte Carlo, what could be a better color than black?  Well, nothing, and that's how this car presents.  All original paint bathes the factory steel which retains its well minded factory set gaps.  Then throw on some red striping around the wheel wells and mid sections on either side and on the bumper tops in front and rear.  Add on an SS sticker on the door panels, blacken the grille, add a window to the B pillar, a spoiler to the trunk lid and two corner taillights on a swooping down rear panel.  Neoprene body matching colored bumpers give the car an aero look.  The racy look comes from the 16-inch aluminum wheels which play with satin and shiny silver paint to accentuate their form.  The factory installed Goodyear Eagle outlined white letter tires are on all 4 corners, how's that for factory fresh?

Interior
Gray crushed velour with gray vinyl bolsters are seen on the optional front bucket and rear bench seats.  A gray plastic console with an ample storage compartment, the T-handled shifter and small storage tray races between the buckets.  Factory air, along with power windows, power steering and power locks, as well as a toggle for the driver's mirror are the options that came with the car from the factory.  No fading is seen on the door panels, seats or dash and again, things are just factory fresh and showroom new.  Gray carpeting appears in good condition, and carpeted floor mats are installed in the front and rear of the car.  A gray felted headliner hangs above, overlooking all this originality.  I can also note a gauge package with factory tachometer for this interior.

Drivetrain
Under the hood is the original 305ci V-8 with a 4-barrel carb on top and attached to a 200R4 4-speed automatic transmission that throws power to the rear wheels via a 3.73:1 limited slip differential.  This was standard setup for the 1988 Monte Carlo SS.  All within a pristine highly detailed clean engine bay.

Undercarriage
F41 sport suspension is mounted to a clean and rust-free frame and undercarriage, (floor pans, wheel wells, and rockers).  Independent coil spring suspension is on front along with power disc brakes and on back power drum brakes work with a 4 link with coil spring suspension.  OEM dual exhaust that is nice and clean is noted.

Drive-Ability
Always a pleasure to drive one of these, and this one is in fabulous condition.  It fired right up and on the test track cruised and bruised when I put the accelerator to the floor.  Solid panic stopping which was bias free, and good handling.  All functions were functioning as they should.

A 2 owner car, 17,577 miles and a homerun from the Chevrolet camp, especially fans of NASCAR, but you don't have to be a fan to fall in love with the late 80's style and charm.  All in near showroom condition, and could easily be a daily driver, although that would be a shame to see road dirt anywhere.  Nice colors and aero exterior with the gauge package interior.  Boogity Boogity Boogity! (Can I say that??)
