1929 Ford Model A Roadster

1929 Ford Model A Roadster

A roadster is an open two-seat car with emphasis on sporting appearance or character.  Initially an American term for a two-seat car with no weather protection, usage has spread internationally and has evolved to include two-seat convertibles.

The beneficiary of an older restoration, (early 1960's), time has moved onward, the car has been enjoyed, along the way winning an AACA National 1st place award in 1965.  We now have a nice car that shows some passage of that time, albeit slowly, and it remains and maintains its original luster.  A well cared for example since the restoration.

Exterior
Green body panels in very good condition, nicely minded gaps, and all rust free steel cover the exterior of this Model A.  Black paint adorns the running boards and fenders and shows with a good shine with little fade or dulling.  Dual bar chrome bumpers and a shiny radiator surround as well as some large round headlights on either side are all nicely preserved and still gleaming.  A black window frame and black canvas top, remaining in very good condition and looking good up or down are on this roadster.  There are some winglet windows on either side of this windshield.  A curved rear deck hides a rumble seat which when opened is in excellent condition.  When closed, it creates a nice downward curve that leads to a spare tire covered with a blue oval badged vinyl black covering.  Dual split shiny 2 bar bumpers are just below this spare.  21-inch black painted wire wheels are on and these have 4.40/4.50-21 tires wrapping them. The spare is the same as the exterior 4 tires.

Interior
A brown overstuffed smooth vinyl bench stretches from brown smooth door panel to door panel.  Some light wear is seen on all surfaces, but no rips or tears.  A super simple green painted full metal dash with a centrally located chromed “mask" style instrument cluster shows some pitting but is fully functional.  An original steering wheel with spark advance lever and throttle/idle lever attached to the column is fronting the metal dash.  The rumble seat is in similar condition as the interior, and presents in brown as well.  Black rubber flooring with an interesting etched pattern covers the floors.  The pedals are oval and very clean floating above the flooring.

Drivetrain
A flathead 201ci 4-cylinder engine with nice green paint and like new hoses and wiring, sits in the engine bay.  It's backed by a 3-speed manual transmission and fed by a simple 1-barrel carburetor. The small rear pumpkin is a 3.54 version.  An older restoration under this cowled hood, and still holding its own on looks.

Undercarriage
Structural integrity and a good frame that is rust free is noted underneath.  It has a slight patina but is all good and solid  Floor pans, rockers, and running board supports are sturdy.  Some areas of moisture “wicking” up possibly from a dirt garage storage floor can be seen on the running boards underneath, but otherwise mostly unremarkable and clean.  Mechanical drum brakes are on all 4 corners, along with transverse leaf springs for the suspension.

Drive-Ability
Started right up, and ran great.  A fun driver, and easy to drive and shift.  I relegated my crack decoder to the rumble seat for this drive as I needed some ME time!  Actually he sat in front and we both had a happy motoring experience in this fine machine.

A classic roadster, a piece of Ford history, which can be used immediately.  It is an all working former AACA National Award winner that is a neat experience and a head turner even at nearly 100 years old!
