1969 Chevrolet C10 Pickup

1969 Chevrolet C10 Pickup

The 1967–72 Chevrolet C/K is one of the most popular, reliable, and easiest-to-drive classic pickups you can find.  This particular generation marks the turning point when Chevy realized it could offer truck buyers modern conveniences and comfort options in the same way it did sedan shoppers—a stunningly simple connection to make in retrospect, but one that blew the market wide open during a time when primary rival Ford steadfastly refusing to build anything other than the most utilitarian models for work use.

As our consigner states, “This was a terrific project that has been finished that you can now just get in and drive!”.  With a short list of upgrades and modifications, along with all rust remediation completed, this truck is not only a hauler but definitely a heart stopper.  Now with a 6.0 Liter LS V8, Edelbrock carburetor, and a lot of creature comforts which I will expound upon in this rambling if you simply read on!!

Exterior
All steel, all bathed in a splendid application of black with a clear coat, and all looking fabulous but not without fault.  A few dings are noted throughout the body, mainly on the tops of the bed sides and tailgate.  The original grille is on and in pristine condition centered between the polished bezel single headlights.  This paves the way for the long steel hood and it is as smooth as glass.  The spear on the center of the hood accentuated the stunning design.  As we move rearward on either side, more straight black painted steel with well minded gaps, and window trimmings are all looking nice and shiny, and the glass is like new, crystal clear all around.  The bed is open for all to see, as it should be with the black texture finish for the inside sides and bulkhead along with new custom walnut flooring installed and this is nearly perfect.  The tailgate has more of black with embossed CHEVROLET lettering and exposed trim holes.  The rear bumper is like new and shiny with tall tail lights and reverse lights seen hovering above.  Highly polished 17-inch Billet Specialties wheels are noted on all 4 corners wrapped in staggered width medium profile rubber.

Interior
The build quality never ceases to amaze this writer.  Here we see, with the swing of the doors, a recovered factory bench with smooth oxblood red bolsters and red tuck and roll inserts.  Custom cupholders have been added and we note black lap belts for your safety.  As we move our attention to the dash, we note the original instrument cluster panel in the textured black with a lineup of like new gauges.  Strapped to the factory column is the 2 spoke black plastic steering wheel and a SunPro tachometer.  A trio of supporting gauges hangs below the dash and holds a GPS speedometer along with oil pressure and water temperature gauges.  Factory heater slides and a neatly installed AM/FM/CD stereo is occupying dash central and above all this is a red padded vinyl dash topper.  On either side are smooth metal doors bathed in the matching black exterior paint with oxblood sheridan embossed vinyl panels with clean cranks and actuators.  Nice red carpeting covers the floors and a long armed shifter with a white ball topper grows from the hump.  Above is a satin black painted metal ribbed roof headliner, pure stamped steel.  Plenty of WOW factors inside here.

Drivetrain
Lifting the hood we are in a land of an all black and orange all buttoned up engine bay surrounds.  In the center sits the shining machined to perfection star in the form of a 6.0 Liter General Motors LS series V8.  Our consignor notes this was removed from a 2500 series pickup and based on the casting dates seen it is of the 2003 vintage.  On top is a newer Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor.  On back is a 5-speed manual transmission, courtesy of a Camaro with a 12-bolt rear axle to put the power to the pavement.

Undercarriage
The strong black frame provides the backbone for the patina and surface rust coated flooring and bed underside.  We note a few areas of invasive rust on the steel of the bed flooring, but all else is solid.  We also see power discs in the front and power drums in the rear and an independent front suspension with coil springs working in conjunction with a leaf spring rear suspension.  Dual exhaust works their way down to a Flowmaster mufflers piped exhaust system.

Drive-Ability
Slipping inside she fired right up and off to the test track we went.  The heater kicked on and blew warm, as it was chilly for my early morning drive and in the background I dialed in a local radio station and all seemed right with the world at that time.  And it was for our test drive, where we had lightning acceleration, smooth shifting, and a great ride for a pickup truck, even with some good handling.  All functions were up to snuff, and we were looking good doing it!

Lots of upgrades and customizations put this particulate C-10 in pretty much a class of its own.  Wonderfully trimmed and painted exterior, a walnut lined bed, a new interior and a powerful mill under the hood.  Just get in and drive...Does it get any easier than that??
