1994 Chevrolet Impala SS Sedan

1994 Chevrolet Impala SS Sedan

From a 1960's perspective, the 1994 Chevrolet Impala SS was an odd duck.  It's a four-door sedan, it's big and it caters to comfort as much as performance.  However, putting the SS back in context, it ranks as one of the last remnants of the old big-horsepower era.  It combines a large-for-its-time V-8 with ample horsepower, rear-wheel drive and full-frame construction.  The last Impala SS had been the 1969 model.  As domestic automakers converted to front-wheel drive, smaller engines and smaller bodies, big high-performance cars disappeared.  Chevrolet continued offering a full-size, rear-wheel-drive car with V-8 power, but downsized it in 1977.  The Caprice name was usually attached, but a few low-buck Impala models were produced through the 1985 model year.  There was a controversial restyling for 1991, utilizing basically the same chassis.  The Caprice was popular with the police and taxi segments of the market, but "civilian" buyers tended to be on the senior side.  All that changed in November of 1992, when Chevrolet tricked up a Caprice sedan for the Specialty Equipment Market Association show in Las Vegas.  It had an LT1 350ci V8, 17-inch aluminum wheels, full rear-wheel cutouts, slightly modified rear quarter windows and a blackout-style paint job.  The late-model Impala SS cost $22,495 and turned out to be a small-volume niche car in the GM scheme of things. For the model's first year, 6,303 units were built. Of course, instant collector status was assured for the Impala SS.

An instant classic… just add gas.  For consignment, we have an always garage kept, 1 owner, 84,737 title verified mileage Chevrolet Impala with a slightly detuned Corvette LT-1 engine, and in all original condition.  Having its original key, original window sticker, dealership brochure, and never in an accident this is a collectible you don't have to be afraid to drive.  With its rounded European aero look, 4 doors, and sporty wheels it's no wonder that the general public fell in love with the SS again!

Exterior
All rounded off and aero looking and all bathed in the factory application of black.  The finish is free of heavy scratching and scuffs but does have a touch of water staining that you must look closely to see.  A 4-door sedan with a kick, for the family who looks to travel in comfort, style and above all… speed.  Beautiful prancing Impala badging throughout and a silver bowtie upfront with all trimmings in fine condition, well minded gaps, and solid steel thanks to being Ziebart rustproofed when new.  Throw in a sloping curved to the trunk deck B pillar and wrap around inset taillights and just say fast.  Then add a low profile trunk lid spoiler, blacked out trim and some 17-inch 5 spoke aluminum wheels shod in like new 255/50ZR17's for good measure to complete the look.

Interior
If you have a penchant for things from a factory, then this car is worth a serious look.  The seats are covered with wonderful aging, but not abused or torn for the supple gray leather and are buckets in front and a bench in the back.  6 way power adjustments move these chairs.  A gray plastic console races between the buckets and is very reminiscent of the console used in the 60's version of the Impala SS.  The original dash of course is in front showing off in black and gray with a multitude of factory gauges fronting the thick rimmed steering wheel.  The door panels follow suit with the gray and black theme and contain more chrome laden power buttons than a 747.  Fairly clean factory gray carpet below, also a perfect headliner in gray above.

Drivetrain
The garage within which this car was stored was clearly climate controlled as the engine and bay are showing very nicely with only minor patina and some light dust.  The plastic is shiny, metal bolt ons are clean and corrosion free, and everything is original with the exception of the water pump.  A detuned Corvette 5.7 liter LT-1 V8 with EFI resides under the hood and on the back is a 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission.  A 10 bolt 3.08 posi rear axle puts power to the road.  Add some hi test go juice and you are down the road faster than you ever thought.

Undercarriage
Down below shows slight aging but a mostly surface rust free for the framing and floors.  Power disc ABS brakes are on both front and rear to bring this antelope to a respectable whoah and independent coil spring front suspension works with a 4 link and coil spring rear suspension to help carve corners and outrun predators.

Drive-Ability
This skate runs like its namesake and nothing is even chasing it.  Nimble handling, neck snapping acceleration and good solid handling.  All with 4 doors and room for 5 comfortably, fully functional and it can turn the highway into mush!

If the police swear by it, I'd take a close look because they are using these vehicles in all conditions, all situations, high speed, constantly running and they love them.  Some come on into Classic Auto Mall and fall in love with this 1 owner, 1st year cruiser.
