1937 Chevrolet Master Deluxe 2 Door Sedan

1937 Chevrolet Master Deluxe 2 Door Sedan

The 1937 Chevrolet Master and Master Deluxe was touted as "The complete car, completely new" in ads.  Retooling had cost $26 million, an astronomical figure by the standards of the time.  Not since 1929 had Chevrolets been altered so completely.  Impressive new styling of the 1937 Chevrolet Master and Master Deluxe was the work of Jules Agramonte, who had designed the stunning 1934 LaSalle.

This Master Deluxe in satin black beauty has been rodded by being chopped 3 inches, features a 350ci V8/TH350 trans setup, a Mustang 2 front end, Toyota Scion front and rear seats, has steel and fiberglass mixture, and has conveniences such as AC and heat.  I see the look of love!

Exterior
A shaved curvaceous front of the car features the wide front fenders which frame a vertical chrome edged shield shaped grille in front leads the way.  Bullet cased and chrome bezel round headlights flank either side and within the fenders are frenched turn signal lighting.  A long V shaped hood wraps around the grille and makes its way back to the 3 inch chopped windshield and cabin top.  Satin black is beautifully applied and bathes this rod, sporting and orange thin stripe running along the belt line the entire length of the car.  The hood is hinged on either side and flips over to reveal the machine age engine compartment.  This hood also has a small horizontal trimming and some vents in the sides.  Nifty small chromed mirrors hang off the doors which have chromed handles of the era.  Below, a fiberglass running board makes its way between the bulbous french curve designed fenders which are also fiberglass.  A luscious back quarter of the car makes plenty of room inside for the rear passengers and has a panoramic window for them to watch the world go by, albeit fast!  The back of the car could best be described as a “hump back with a nice curve bending outward to the shaved rear sans bumper back here too.  The trunk creates the hump and is a rounded square shaped box protruding from the curve of the rear and corresponding fenders.  A wonderful colorful pinstripe flourish is painted on just above the trunk lid handle, and tail lighting has been frenched into the rear roll pan.  Roof is solid steel and features an elongated oval for the back window.  A beautiful stance for this car aided by 15-inch American Racing polished wheels wrapped in 185/60R15's in front and big 245/60R15's on back, both sets from the 37th week of 2016 and have plenty of tread to put down on the road.

Interior
A swing of the front doors and we are greeted with charcoal gray suede door panels with a black leather shiny armrest, and also in this field are the actuators which are chromed, and wood cranks chromed with a warm cream bakelite knob.  Climbing inside I see Toyota Scion high backed buckets with grab your body bolsters and high headrests.  In back is a full bench in 2 plus 2  for in leather also black and these can have a child seat hooked into it due to the seat belts.  Back here is more suede for the sides and a fabricated arm rest on either side wrapped in black leather.  Our friend Atrie as in Art Deco has influenced the custom dash where we see a steel satin black dash front peppered with polished aluminum horizontal ribbed background for the round instruments which reside behind a modern version of a Colorado Customs banjo rally wheel also wrapped in black leather.  The gauges are from Daytona instruments and present with white faces and black lettering and red pointers with a digital readout for the odometer.  Also on the dash noted eyeball AC and heat vents, a central Chevrolet art deco factory badge, Vintage AC and heat, and a Pioneer AM/FM/CD digital radio hanging below the dash to belt out the tunes…A 1 and a 2… Nice clean black carpeting and mats that are protecting it floods the floors, and above is a light grey stitched headliner in nice smooth condition.

Drivetrain
Under that cowled and hinged hood is a mechanical masterpiece all gray and industrial looking and in the form of a 350ci V8 which is topped with a 4-barrel Edelbrock carburetor.  A TH350 3-speed automatic makes driving very easy and a 10 bolt rear axle is on.  Headers, a polished ribbed oval air cleaner to filter air for the Edelbrock, and cast ribbed valve covers as well as some extra aluminum and gray metal bolt ons and hoses add to the look, which is of the machine age and very snappy looking.

Undercarriage
Some slight patina but mostly painted black surfaces with no rust abounds underneath.  Framing is all solid like new, and shiny dual Magnaflow mufflers take the exhaust from the headers and shove it rearward.  Noted is a Mustang 2 front suspension which works in unison with rack and pinion steering, and power disc braking.  On the back are leaf springs and also noted are like new coil coil over shocks.  Nice rust free stamped floor pans in all steel make a very solid constructed undercarriage.

Drive-Ability
A turn of the key and I had to turn the radio down so I could hear the growl of the 350 cubes in front.  The idle was smooth and off to the test track where I always first test for braking which was nice and bias free.  Then I hit the loud pedal and with neck snapping acceleration I'm was off for my smiling experience.   The TH350 shifted beautifully and AC, heat, radio and all other functions were in working condition.

A fab build which looks the part of a chopped mid to late 30' s bowtie design with that long rear quarter, hump back and frenched lighting.  The satin is a stunner and very apropos for this rodder.  Check it out as it is going to fly out of here just like it did for me on the test track.  A nice build with modern conveniences still looking the late 30's part.
