1974 Cadillac Coupe DeVille

1970 Cadillac Coupe DeVille

Here's to the past
They can kiss my glass
I hope she's happy with him
Here's to the girl
Who wrecked my world
That angel who did me in
I think the devil drives a Coupe de Ville
I watched 'em drive away over the hill
Not against her will
I've got time to kill
Down in Brokenheartsville

Here I sit broken hearted, trying to write and only started, BUT let's rock and roll!  For consignment, a 1974 Coupe Deville, (much like Cruella!).  Actually this example of a true land yacht, sets sea on the road to success, paved in avocado green, ( in reality Persian Lime Firemist).  Some faults in the paint and white vinyl roof, (mostly on the roof), as it does reside in our South mallway but lots of good money spent on all mechanicals which are now buttoned up and runs like a big American watch.  Long panels, luxurious interior, plenty of conveniences, and lots of room to spare for this rad Caddy when they were still cool.  Now they are just more sporty but personally I prefer cool. Hold on to your hat!

Exterior
Dual headlights find either side and flank a wide square pattern egg crate grille and have a big bumper below in a match the hood outward V.  Signal lighting wraps around the front quarters from the dual duals and a fine trim spear runs the gamut to the back of the car.  Large doors provide access to the passenger compartment and this is topped by a white vinyl top.  This shows some invasive rusting on its edges, a hole in the vinyl in the center and rust in the white trimming surrounding the top.  This rust has migrated to the body and a few other areas where the roof meets the body.  The remainder of the Persian Lime Firemist paint is still good and holding the shine.  In the back of this big beauty are vertical tail lights and large vertical Caddy iconic bezels just off the backside of the rear quarters.  Horizontal tail lights also run across the rear just below the trunk lid.  A shiny bumper below, and some Caddy Badging around the entirety of this car, and we have an exterior ladies and gentlemen.

Interior
The BIG doors swing easily open and reveal lots of white leather and molded vinyl for the door panels.  There is also some wood appliqué, a stainless toggle panel for the power windows and mirrors, and a molded white armrest.  The lowers are exterior matching green carpeting.  Inside we can breathe in white leather which may have taken out an entire herd of cattle to cover these overstuffed wide chairs.  Split backs with a wide fold down armrest in front, and a wide bench for at least 3 in back.  The front seats are power adjustable and show some soiling mostly on the fold down armrest.  The door panels have it as well in a lot less obvious form.  The green monster curved vinyl molded dash in green stretches across the front of the car.  Here we see wood appliqué accenting and true GM dash design right out of 1974.  Green carpeting covers the floors and a tight whitey headliner hangs tightly above.  A very mid 70's color combo now retro cool!

Drivetrain
Under the hood sits a 472ci V8 which is original to the car, and provides enough power to spare to thrust this large piece of Detroit iron down the highway.  It has a factory 4-bbl carb atop, and a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission on back.  The rear axle weighs in at a 12 bolt with 2.93 gear ratio.  All in an unrestored patina and some dirt engine bay.

Undercarriage
Patina, some surface rust, and invasive rust on the rockers mostly near all the wheel wells is noted.  The stamped floor pans in these areas have it too, and also the framing shows some surface rust.  Independent coil sprung front suspension provides the ride, and in back a 4 link with coil spring suspension is on and up to snuff.  Power disc braking is upfront, and power drums for the rear.

Drive-Ability
A quick starter, and smooooooth runner, this car is mechanically sound.  Cosmetically it needs some TLC but I would not change that classic mid 70's color.  Bias free panic stopping, smooth automatic shifting and no problems on the mechanical front or back.

A classic with the “IT” color scheme, white leather, and all the conveniences one could shake a 1974 stick at, she's a true green meanie with personality and that charm that came with the 70's.  Now it's looked at as retro which is a good thing, as opposed to myself which I'm just referred to as old, but in a good experienced way!  Take me or leave me just like you can this consignment, but if you are into mid 70s stuff, get in here quick.
