1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Convertible

1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Convertible

The word Cutlass is defined as a short curvy one-edged sword that was used by sailors.  The Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme was the best selling car in Olds history.  With its clean lines and numerous model offerings, it is clear to see why.

For consignment, a 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible in very nice condition.  Nice paint, good chrome, a rebuilt engine, factory power steering, factory AC, and power brakes make this rocket of an Olds ready to shoot for the moon, all the while with the top down.

Exterior
Straight steel side panels, and trunk and hood with consistent gaps and covered in a lemon yellow respray, there are very few faults to be noted here.  Certainly not perfect, but amazingly preserved with merely a few chips, minor cracks and inclusions in the finish.  A black canvas top covers the passenger compartment and has been fitted with a glass rear window.  A tear in the canvas is present toward the driver's rear and we note the rear seam has come loose and begun to split.  Up front, a split grille is flanked by dual headlights on either side, and a large chrome bumper below.  All is nice and tight and in good alignment with no rust or fading on chrome.  Twin black stripes race over the hood, pause at the windshield, and pick back up again on the trunk.  The black canvas roof sweeps down to meet the trunk lid and bright shiny polishing trimmings surround the windshield as well as the passenger compartment.  Bringing up the curved to a point rear is a wrap-around bumper that has the taillights embedded within it.  On all 4 corners are yellow Oldsmobile Super Stock II chrome wheels with raised white letter Cooper Cobra Radial GT rubber.

Interior
Opening one of the doors we are greeted by nice textured black vinyl with sheridan and applique embossed panels and a small amount of thin nice chrome accents, window cranks, and black carpeting below.  Slipping inside we get behind the original wheel which fronts a very clean and original dash.  This presents to us in black and is loaded with plenty of wood appliqué for the gauge cluster.  Below and to the right of the cluster is more applique for the heat and AC, and centrally located in the dash is the factory AM radio and a trio of auxiliary gauges, meanwhile, in front of the passenger we see a glove box, all aligned perfectly.  Fronting this dash is a nice and black split bench seat which are tuck and roll vinyl with upper buttoning and adjustable headrests.  The back has a matching rear bench that appears to never have been sat in and these all float in a sea of slightly faded black carpeting.  A shout out to the trunk with black carpeted mat and full size spare tire.  Sit back and turn on the AM/FM radio and breathe in the 1970 design you are now surrounded by!

Drivetrain
The numbers matching rocket 350ci V8 sits between the fenders and has been fitted with a single Edelbrock 4bbl carburetor.  A non original TH350 3-speed automatic transmission behind, sits in a nicely patina engine bay with a gaggle of red wiring throughout.  Handling the tire turning is a 12 bolt rear axle.

Undercarriage
Nice and straight with some undercoating and a bit of surface rust on the axle and suspension parts, but the frame is strong and sturdy.  Independent coil springs for the front and a 4 link with coil springs is on back.  Power drum brakes grace all 4 corners and dual exhaust sends spent fossils to the rear of the car through a pair of stock replacement style mufflers.

Drive-Ability
She fired right up and ran like a champ on the test track.  Smooth shifting and good solid quick stop braking is the norm for this car, as is capable handling and wonderful acceleration.  I wanted to take the liberty of having my tenure behind the wheel in top down guise but sadly the top did not function.  Also, the radio did not broadcast any news and the AC did not blow cold.  Otherwise a wonderful driver.

A well kept and nice example from the year 1970.  Cared for and garaged and tended to as needed.  A beautiful black color inside and eye-catching yellow for the exterior, with all surfaces in nice condition.  A well-preserved example, nearly like a new penny, turn the key and start enjoying 1970 all over again.
