1930 Ford Model A Tudor Sedan

1930 Ford Model A Tudor Sedan

The Tudor sedan body style was one of the first Model A body styles.  In fact, the "mysterious new Ford" seen on the streets of Detroit in the fall of 1927 was indeed the new Model A Tudor Sedan.  The most popular of all Model A body styles, the Standard Tudor was available in all 4 Model A years, with well over 1.25 million of them being built between 1927 and 1931.

1 in 1.25 million you could say for this consignment.  You could also say it also has a nice black paint job, good chrome, and straight red painted wire wheels.  I say it's straight and true, and the consigner says it's an AACA Senior Grand National winner.

Exterior
A black deep end of the pool painted “Tudor” body, front cowl, fenders, and roof are beautifully done with no inclusions or streaks.  No rust, and original rain gutters, which are rare to see, are on this car.  Chrome is in very good condition surrounding the radiator, making the round casings for the headlights and covering the 2 bar bumpers on front and rear.  The grille is in black with a chrome corral, and a beautifully restored blue oval badged Motometer meter tops the radiator.  A black painted horn is tucked between the radiator and front curved fender.  Mounted to a trimming which edges the firewall are 2 additional running lights.  Red pinstriping, hand painted, is running the length of the car at the beltline.  On the back a split due bar bumper framing a red wire wheel spare tire mounted in the center of this car.

Interior
A swing of each door and we see near perfection with fuzzy broadcloth gray covered door panels with a stitched center square, small storage pouch and shiny cranks and actuators.  Just delicious!  Inside there are 2 low back tuck and roll gray tweed covered bomber style buckets.  In back is a full tweed overstuffed wide tuck and roll stitched bench stretching from side to side.  It sports a wide white piping separating the inserts from a smooth bolster below.  In front a swooping arch painted in lighter gray to match the tweed, metal dash top has an elongated oval black painted dash front.  On this is the Ford “mask” style instrument cluster showing nearly perfect on this shiny chrome with very nice classic factory instrumentation.  The headliner is off white and nice and tight, as are the vertical coverings in the fuzzy gray broadcloth.  The floors have crips and clean black rubber flooring throughout.

Drivetrain
Under the hood in a completely restored engine bay is a showroom quality 4 cylinder in 201ci inline form.  Supple hoses and wiring abounds and is all like new on this original engine.  A 1-barrel updraft carburetor feeds it and on back is a 3-speed manual transmission mating up with a 3.77 rear axle.  No runs, no drips, and no errors in this bay.

Undercarriage
Transverse leaf springs and mechanical drum braking is all in beautiful condition and is supported by a black no road dirt X frame undercarriage.  The floor pans are black painted and solid, and a stock exhaust is seen making its way to the rear exit.

Drive-AbilityThis Tudor starts up and runs like a 1930 Model T should!  I felt like I was in 1930 toppling around the test track, making me yearn for a simpler time, wearing a straw hat and a zoot suit and my wife in her flapper dress and bobbed hair off to the speakeasy.

An AACA Senior National recognized car, completely beautiful restoration on all fronts and a turn the key and drive away to go and show the car, what more could you want?  “I offered George to get in on the ground floor of plastics and he turned me down.”, (Sam Wainwright from It's A Wonderful Life).  So DO NOT miss this opportunity.
