1995 Ford Mustang Cobra

1995 Ford Mustang Cobra

The Ford SVT Mustang Cobra, (also known as SVT Mustang Cobra, SVT Cobra, or simply as Cobra), is a muscle car/pony car model that was built in model years 1993 through 2004 by Ford Motor Company's Special Vehicle Team division, (or SVT, for short). The SVT Cobra was a high-performance version of the Ford Mustang, considered as top-of-the-line as it was positioned above the Mustang GT and Mach 1 models during its era of production. On three occasions, the race-ready, street-legal SVT Cobra R variant was produced in limited numbers.

For consignment, a SN-95 chassis 1995 Mustang Cobra SVT. This higher mileage car has a 5.0 Liter V8, painted leather seats (now black), and a crystal white exterior.

Exterior
In lieu of the galloping horse or blue oval, a snarling cobra badge is in the very center of the grille. This small grille is surrounded by white neoprene which forms the lower bumper with fog lights inset, the aero fit to the body headlights and wrap around parking lighting and signals. The rear scooped hood has a small oval air intake on either side and bumps up against black painted wipers and glass surround of the front windshield. Front quarters have another cobra badge, and the rockers are flared out, which are below nicely fitted doors with white handles. The rear quarters have faux air intakes and these have a reminiscent form of the hockey stick cove which is handed off from the door midline. A curved rear glass gently makes its way to the trunk deck which is short, and sports a white sculpted rear spoiler. On the back the original tail lights have been replaced with 1996-98 tail lights which are another harken back to the humble beginnings with a trio of vertical ribs for the red lenses. Dual exhaust and a nicely preserved neoprene rear bumper hang below the trunk lid and rear tail lights.

Interior
Sporty design for the door panels in black molded plastic with black vinyl surrounds house the window controls, rear view mirror toggles, and door actuator. Wonderfully aged black leather with some folds and slight cracks are on the front buckets with large side bolsters and headrests all present with some forms of paint covering their surfaces. The dash utilizes dual swoop open eyebrows if you will, and these come together in the center to form the center console. What faced gauges are in front of the driver and steering wheel and in the center are the radio and climate controls, as well as the shift lever. In back is more leather in 2+2 form and this bench is in very nice condition nearly unused. Black carpeting covers the floors, and Cobra badged and stitched floor mats protect it. A smooth felted headliner in black hovers above and is nice and tight.

Drivetrain
A pop of the scooped hood, and we see the 5.0 liter mill underneath. The engine has GT-40 heads, EFI and a T5 5 speed manual transmission on back. The rear axle weighs in at 8.8 inches, and is a 3.73 TracLoc version. No corrosion, supple shiny hoses and nice black engine bay paint abound.

Undercarriage
Just a bit of spotty surface rust is noted underneath, in particular the gas tank straps, and some of the rear structure. It is also seen on the usual cast suspects. Floor pans are rust free and solid in their stamped steel look. Factory headers lead to a dual exhaust, front independent coil sprung suspension and a 4 link with coil springs for the rear are noted. Power disc braking is on all 4 corners.

Drive-Ability
It fired right up with the 5.0 roar, and off to the test track we went. It displayed intermittent deceleration and stalling when pressed, the car pulls left under braking, the radio had intermittent volume, there was a noise from the front end, and the odometer and trip odometer are inoperable. Upon my exit, I noticed the drivers door hinge bushings are shot.

An example of the 1995 SVT Cobra looking good but with some issues to be looked into. The AC blows cold, and the engine bay appears original and nicely preserved. There are some extras that come with the car and the list is available upon request here at the Classic Auto Mall
