1930 Ford Model A Sedan

1930 Ford Model A Sedan

When viewing a 1930 Model A you will notice on the hardtops, there is a cloth/canvas covering the top. There is much speculation as to why this is and there are basically 3 reasons for this. Number 1 is Henry Ford was cheap! Number 2 is steel was in demand and people still enjoyed the canvas roof look, and 3 is the technology for welding such a large piece of steel did not exist, and even if it was put on, the road conditions of the time would have certainly quickly bent such a large panel. I'll go with number 1!

*Please Note: This vehicle carries a Pennsylvania Reconstructed branding on the title*

For consignment, a custom creation starting with a basic Model A all steel save for the fenders and running boards.  A stout Chevrolet ZZ4 355ci V8 with a Turbo 350 transmission, Vintage Air, heater and defroster  and all bathed in wonderful burgundy, open cowled hood and all!

Exterior
We have no limits to our world, we are only limited by our imagination. And it kicked in big time on this creation which retains a 1932 grille and a Rotlieb hood and with a single headlight on either side mounted to a crossbar into the fenders.  These are fiberglass and flawless in their curvaceous design gently rolling down to the running board covered in rubber. This moves rearward and meets up with another rounded fender also in fiberglass. The roofline of the car remains un chopped, and to top is canvas. Glass has been etched with some flowers and leaves in their corners. On the back, the roofline dives straight downward to the Rock Valley stainless steel fuel tank and shiny solid rear bumper.  Tail lights hang off of stalks and dual shiny exhaust sneaks out from the bottom below the bumper. 14-inch polished drilled wheels are on front, and 15-inch for the rear.  Good rubber is all around.

Interior
Door panels are covered with a gray tweed broadcloth and use an embossed panel running through the center. Tweed gray high back buckets, courtesy a Fiero, are now in for the front passengers, and a rear bench is overstuffed and also in gray tweed.  For the dash the original metal eyebrow is now covered in tweed fabric, and in the center is a mahogany stained wood panel in the shape of a pointed oval. This serves as the background for cream background round Classic Instruments gauges with brass bezels. There is a lineup in the center of smaller gauges and some warning lights.  Below this pointed oval is a stainless steel panel which houses the Vintage Air and heat as well as some vents and knobs and pulls. A Grant GT rally steering wheel is fronting the dash, and in a sea of black carpeting with a Lokar shifter rising to the hand of the driver. On the tweed headliner is an upper console which houses a radio which is AM/FM/Cassette format.  This stainless and stained wood contraption also houses dual interior lights that have lenses and can aim in multi directions.

Drivetrain
Out in the open is behind the radiator for all the world to see is a consigner stated 350ci V8 that is of ZZ4 designation and has been bored .030 over.  On top is a dual 4-barrel Edelbrock  carb setup with a round chrome air cleaner covers that also hides the underlying street screw.  On the back is a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission with a 2500rpm stall converter and shift kit. This pushes power back to a Ford 9 inch 3.70 geared pumpkin.  Headers and plenty of chromed bolt ons for this open air beautiful build.

Undercarriage
Clean as a whistle underneath with black painted straight rust free steel in TCI chassis form.   There is a 4 inch Super Bell dropped axle, a 4 bar with coil over shocks, and stainless steel exhaust is seen.  Discs are upfront and drums on back.

Drive-Ability
All good, and all working great  this 8 cylinder has some stuff to offer up on the power front. Braking was solid and bias free, and handling very good as well. All worked just great and I had a devil of a time getting in and out! Once in though it was roomy and comfy.

You will definitely be the only person in your neighborhood with this custom Model A rod, cooker and looker, shades of the early hot rod styling, all bathed in beautiful burgundy and chrome trimmings.  Hand me a long neck and let's git!
