1946 Chevrolet Pickup

The Chevrolet AK Series truck was a light duty truck sold under the Chevrolet brand, with production beginning in 1941 until 1947.  It used the GM A platform, shared with the Chevrolet Deluxe.  The AK series was also branded and sold at GMC locations, with the primary visual difference being the Chevrolet had vertical bars in the grille, while the GMC had horizontal bars.  The 1941-45 GMC models were sold as C-Series and became the E-Series for the 1946 and 1947 model years (CC-Series / EC-Series for the conventional cab models and CF-Series / EF-Series for the COE ones).

A carry over design from pre-WWII known as the Interim Series, hot rodded with straight steel, a powerful V8, chopped top, power windows and AC, all in an eye-catching yellow.  This truck is more comfortable taking you to the local shake shac than hauling hay to the barn.  But the choice is yours, regardless of your destination you'll look fab when you arrive.

Exterior
With retina searing yellow bathing the cab, hood and bed sides, flowing fenders, running boards and large headlights, all is looking good with well applied paint showing only minor chips, paint cracks and inclusions.  This truck drips with 1940's design, leading the way by a fascinating yellow painted horizontal and vertical bar integrated grille,  Much of the chrome has been shaved off or finished in body color with the exception of the headlight rings that frame the sexy teardrop bezels and running board step plates.  The roof has been chopped a touch giving a much cleaner look and the doors have been shaved of their handles and now sport black aero-style mirrors.  18 and 20" polished American Racing Torque Thrust wheels are on the corners and are shod with staggered width like new radials.  A cleanly installed wonderfully stained oak wood bed with yellow divider strips is noted and none of it has a mark on as it hides under a black tonneau cover.  A smoothed roll pan resides just under the clean tailgate and houses frenched in bullet style tail lights provides the backdrop for the rear of this hauler.

Interior
Body matching yellow is sprayed on the upper metal door frames, and dash.  Surrounded by a billet insert, round black face VDO gauges with white numbers face the driver with a thick rim polished 3-spoke steering wheel in between.  A few black knobs  grace the lower section of the dash along with an AM/FM/CD stereo and vents for the heat and AC.  Providing room for 2 are upgraded high black gray tweed buckets with overstuffed bolsters and tuck and roll inserts.  This tweed also wraps the rear of the cab and well as the doors which are peppered with black toggles for the power windows.  More gray tweed for the headliner and clean gray carpet floods the floors with the long arm black knobbed shifter growing from the hump.

Drivetrain
Opening the rear hinged hood, we can see a 350ci Chevrolet V8 that is fed air and fossils through an Edelbrock 4bbl carburetor and aluminum intake manifold.  Ribbed aluminum valve coverings are on along with an Edelbrock chrome air cleaner lid, meanwhile an HEI distributor lights the fire.  A 4-speed automatic 700R4 transmission is attached to the rear of the V8 and a Camaro 10 bolt rear axle moves this Interim Series rod down the road.

Undercarriage
Due to the quality of the built, there are absolutely no real faults to remark about underneath, just minor road dirt.  The strong black frame provides the backbone for the black painted suspension, which is a leaf spring set up for the rear and a Camaro subframe and independent coil spring suspension in the front. The black continues with solid flooring and we see nearly the same quality of staining work performed on the underside bed boards as seen above.  Power disc brakes up front and power drum brakes in the back give us the stopping power on all 4 corners and headers with glasspack style mufflers handle spent fossil removal effectively.

Drive-Ability
A fine and nicely built truck is always a pleasure to drive, as it has a certain charm that cannot be replicated by any new vehicle and that always brings a smile to my face.  With a pop of the door I slid into the supple body hugging bucket and this truck did not disappoint on the performance front with smooth acceleration, good easy shifting, and it got me down the road.  All functions were in working order save for the AC blowing warm, which our consignor states may just require a recharge.

It's so simple for this consignment, walk in, grab the key, turn it on, drive it, pay for it, then drive it away and enjoy it for years to come.  All the blood, sweat, and tears has been put into this Interim rod, with just excellent looks, and performance to beat the band.  How's that for blowing its horn!
