2001 Cadillac Eldorado ESC

2001 Cadillac Eldorado ESC

The origins of El Dorado lie deep in South America.  And like all enduring legends, the tale of El Dorado contains some scraps of truth.  When Spanish explorers reached South America in the early 16th century, they heard stories about a tribe of natives high in the Andes mountains in what is now Colombia.  When a new chieftain rose to power, his rule began with a ceremony at Lake Guatavita.  Accounts of the ceremony vary, but they consistently say the new ruler was covered with gold dust, and that gold and precious jewels were thrown into the lake to appease a god that lived underwater.

Seen in our Hallowed Halls of Classic Auto Mall we have a 2001 Eldorado ESC that has always been garage kept and faithfully maintained by its elderly owner, until driving was no longer feasible.  Sporting a mere 41,399 title verified miles, wIth all the trappings associated with a Caddy, conveniences abound and luxury is paramount in the materials that go into this car.  The best technology and luxury available with walnut burl, supple leather, dual front airbags, all power controls and has been serviced by a GM certified mechanic, including the resealing of the Northstar V8.  Its time to experience life the way the other half live.

Exterior
Beautiful pristine laser straight steel panels come together to form the square design exterior of this luxury automobile.  This design theme is a carryover from the late 80's into the 90's but we can see Cadillac has aerodynamics in mind as slipstream panels and angles are incorporated into the design.  These are all bathed in Crimson Pearl paint which shows with scuffs, scrapes, sand marks, and runs in the finish.  This beautiful body design is highlighted by a mid beltline trim rail, which extends around and into the body matching neoprene bumpers.  A clean egg crate style grille is up front and is flanked on either side by aerodynamic rectangular headlights which are crystal clear.  Dual dual exhaust tips, in oval chrome exhaust tips hang below the bumper and outboard mounted cathedral style tail lights.  16 inch multi-spoke alloy wheels are on all 4 corners and are wrapped in deeply treaded 225/60R16 radials.  A shout out to the very clean trunk with its gray felted liner, cargo net, and multi-CD changer.

Interior
Shale would be your contrasting interior color, and it is in the form of luxurious leather covered wide dual front bucket seats with a padded center armrest topped console in between, and a couch-like rear bench.  Both driver and passenger seats are power, and wide side bolsters tend to grab you when you sit down.  Moving up the console we see leather topped automatic shifter as well as rocker switches for the front seat heaters.  Continuing up to the cascading design dash we see digital climate controls along with the factory AM/FM/Cassette player and an add-on Sony multi-CD controller.  Just above, a wide strip of walnut burl graces the dash and accentuates the shale padding nicely.  In front of the driver is a black faced cluster with the full gamut of analog gauges and a LCD odometer.  A thick rimmed leather wrapped wheel fronts the dash and all is excellent, very clean and well cared for as is the Shale carpeting that floods the floors.  A clean tight cloth headliner frames the roof above.  Not to be forgotten are the Shale leather and plastic door panels with a touch more of burl as well as power window, lock, and mirror controls.

Drivetrain
Within a well preserved and slightly patina engine bay is the 4.6 Liter Northstar V8 power plant.  This mill is capable of making 275hp with the help of EFI and has been recently resealed by a GM certified mechanic.  Sending power to the front tires is a 4T80E 4-speed automatic with a 3.11 final drive axle.

Undercarriage
Slipping underneath, we notice a solid frame, floor pans and rockers environment, with just a touch of some surface rust.  Floor pans still have some of the factory overspray of the exterior red on them.  Since the car is front wheel drive, there is a lack of a drive shaft making its way rearward.  Independent Macpherson strut suspension for the front, and the rear is an independent coil spring design.  Power disc brakes are all around and single to dual mufflered and outlet exhaust is seen to complete our tour below.

Drive-Ability
With the low mileage one would expect this car to start right up, and it did.  We would also expect everything to work, and it did.  It ran beautifully, provided a smooth ride, and had good acceleration and cruising.  Only one thing it did not do, and that is disappoint on the luxury end.

Low miles, nice paint, and a plethora of conveniences and we are skating with the haves, and if I power the windows closed, and crank up the sound system, it's very easy to forget about the have nots.
