2007 Ford Mustang Coupe

2007 Ford Mustang

The Mustang created the "pony car" class of American cars, distinguished as affordable sporty coupes with long hoods and short rear decks, and gave rise to competitors such as the Chevrolet Camaro, Pontiac Firebird, AMC Javelin, Chrysler's revamped Plymouth Barracuda, and the second-generation Dodge Challenger.  The Mustang is also credited for inspiring the designs of coupés such as the Toyota Celica and Ford Capri, which were imported to the United States.  As of August 2018, over 10 million Mustangs have been produced in the U.S.

For consignment, a 6-cylinder version of the Mustang with the optional pony package that has been given a true retro twist. This car has added Mach 1 graphics and badging throughout as well as a swap from the lowly 4.0 liter V6 to a much more powerful 4.6 Liter 3V V8.  Chrome plastic bumpers, scoops and all the V8 accoutrements make this little pony not only an insurance beater but also Camaro killer.  Read on and let the retro flow into your heart.

Exterior
Redfire Metallic with 1969 Mach 1 stripes, a scooped hood, rear spoiler and blacked out rockers come together to create the menacing look for this muscle car.  Styling cues can be seen from way back in 1969 with its grille shape and rear tail light configuration which have chrome plastic bezels added.  A nice hood scoop fronts blacked out trim around beautiful glass.  Dual side scoops grace the quarter windows and California Special scoops on the rear quarter panels give a very musclecar look.  The blacked out horizontally ribbed grille floats just above a body matching neoprene front bumper that has been fitted with a Chrome plastic Retro USA bumper.  1969 Mach 1 stripes run just above the black rocker trimmings and just above on the fender is a chrome "Powered By Ford" badge.  On the doors are Agent 47 '69 Mach 1 style mirrors.  Out back, an added rear Mustang GT spoiler and clean badging finish out the picture, some factory and some added look great and are complemented by the Retro USA chrome plastic rear bumper overtop the factory neoprene rear bumper.  Polished factory 5 spoke 18” wheels wrapped in 2 year old blackwall rubber specing out at 235/50R18 and 255/55R18 respectively.

Interior
NOS Ford Mustang GT charcoal black leather with tuck and roll inserts come together to make up the upholstery for the front buckets and rear 2 plus 2 seats and are looking just great. The driver's bucket is powered, as are the windows and locks. A very simple dash houses another cue from 65, in the form of the dual circular embedded instruments behind the steering wheel, although the 65 version utilized a horizontal speedometer.  A Shaker 500 AM/FM/6 CD player, A/C, traction control are noted as well.  A white knobbed Hurst shifter sits in a center console that makes its way past the buckets to the rear 2 plus 2's.  Nice black carpet has black floor mats for protection.  Noted are chrome finish door handles that work nicely to break up the black plastic of the door panels.  About the only flaw noted on this interior is some loose material on the perforated vinyl inserts on the doors.

Drivetrain
Long gone is the pedestrial 4.0 Liter V6 and now a correct 2007 4.6 Liter 3V V8 with EFI sits between the shock towers.  For some extra kick and looks, a Ford Racing cold air intake and 85mm mass air meter have been added and powder coated blue valve covers dress the top sides of the block.   Attached to the back of this mill is a Tremec TR3650 5-speed manual transmission which puts power rearward to an 8.8” 3.73 TracLoc geared rear.

Undercarriage
Surface rust is noted on the untreated components, but all is structurally sound including the unibody, rockers and factory oversprayed painted floors.  Mustang GT 12.5" front and 12" rear power disc brakes are on all 4 corners and independent coil spring suspension is on the front with GT500 lower control arms and the rear suspension is a 3-link design with coil springs and a panhard bar.  These springs are also new Ford Racing M-5300-P lowering units.  True dual exhaust has been added with Magnaflow hi-flow converters and Borla Stinger stainless mufflers.

Drive-Ability
It was toasty and humid on the morning of our test drive, so I was thankful for the AC.  The car fired right up with the twist of the key and idled with a very unassuming burble while I sipped my morning chai tea.  Once the interior was sufficiently cooled to my liking, I slipped into the new leather and off to the test track I went.  Here the car performed much like a GT, because it essentially is now, with unlimited acceleration, great handling and superb braking.  All was working well during my drive and the upgraded leather seating is very comfortable, even in a sports car.

A nicely presenting, and powerful running V8 pony in eye-catching Redfire Metallic with all the 1969 Mach 1 add-ons to make you wonder why Ford did build them this way.  A beautifully upgraded leather interior along with upgraded brakes, suspension and exhaust is for your enjoyment here at Classic Auto Mall.
