1969 Chevrolet Camaro

The first-generation Chevrolet Camaro appeared in Chevrolet dealerships in September 1966 for the 1967 model year on a brand-new rear-wheel drive GM F-body platform and was available as a 2-door, 2 plus 2 seat, hardtop (no "B" or center pillar) or convertible, with the choice of either a straight-six or V8 engine. The first-generation Camaro was built through the 1969 model year.

This restored, and jam-packed with power 1969 Z/28 tribute version is as beautiful as it is powerful. A shining example of taking an amalgamation of performance parts and stuffing them into an iconic body. A photo documented frame off restoration, traction bars, houndstooth interior, rally wheels and a rear facing scooped hood all added to a big sum of total muscle!

Exterior
The recipient of a frame off restoration with laser straight sheetmetal and well minded panel alignment, this Camaro was given a respray in a nice coating of GM Arrival Blue Metallic. Prior to the clear coating, wide white dual racing stripes were painted on. A rear facing scooped hood was added to give some extra breathing and Z/28 badging was added to the eggcrate grille, fenders and tail panel. Brightwork and badging as well as bumpers and window trimmings are all looking shiny and fab. On the back a small rear spoiler attached to the trunk lid and just below is a pristine bumper framing the horizontal tail lights. Polished American Racing 15-inch Torque Thrust wheels are on all 4 corners and are wrapped in deeply treaded BF Goodrich radial rubber.

Interior
Complimenting the exterior blue and white stripes, we see a sea of black nice condition vinyl. This is covering the contoured door panels which are nearly showroom, and works as a highlight on the bolsters of the white and black houndstooth inserts of the buckets which are high back versions with large headrests attached. In the back is a black 2 plus 2 rear bench just as nice as the front buckets. In the center is a black molded vinyl console and it sports a chrome trimmed applique insert which frames the T-handled Hurst floor shifter. Just in front of the shift lever is a quad of cascading gauges to monitor engine vitals and gives you a constant heads up reading of said numbers. The dash is original and has a beautiful rosewood rimmed 3 spoke steering wheel in front. Peering beyond the wheel are a pair of deeply sunken gauges with warning lights below and a clock in the center. To the driver's right are the heater slides and the factory AM radio surrounded by more applique, (a hidden AM/FM/CD player resides in the glovebox). Black carpeting in like new condition is on the floors and above is a tight black vinyl headliner. We are ready to roll!

Drivetrain
Under the scooped hood, now replacing the original 8 cylinder is a 350ci V8 bored .030 over now displacing 355ci. It has been topped with GM Performance aluminum cylinder heads, a Comp Cams camshaft with its diet of air and fossils is provided by a Holley 650cfm 4bbl carburetor and GM Performance intake manifold. A Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission is installed and sends power back to a Ford 9" TracLoc rear axle with 3.50 gears. Dressing up the mill are chrome valve covers and an air cleaner which compliments the surgically clean engine bay nicely.

Undercarriage
Fully restored with nary a bit of rust, surface or otherwise to disrupt the sea of shiny black that makes up the flooring, subframe connectors, and unibody . Headers run to a Flowmaster mufflered dual exhaust that makes its way to the back of the machine. Independent coil springs are on front and on back are leaf springs with traction bars to provide the muscle ride and power disc brakes are on front, and power drums for the rear. All looking ready for some action under here.

Drive-Ability
This car fired up with a mighty roar, and performed much like the roar at the start. Out on the test track it had wonderful launching from that first gear, and unlimited acceleration. The M20 manual and Hurst shifter is snappy and working perfectly. Braking was solid. Only 3 frowns crept up during our drive, the horn didn't toot, it merely clicked, the reverse lights didn't illuminate, and the wipers are non functional. Not that you'll be doing much foul weather driving in this beauty.

All buttoned up interior and exterior, a Z28 tribute car which definitely looks and performs the part. Beautiful color combos, all ready to roll in style and even add a bit of excitement to your right foot. This is the Camaro you need to own and it will certainly make you the envy of all of Zee car guys in your neighborhood.
