1928 Chevrolet LP Panel Delivery
1928 Chevrolet LP Panel Delivery
The LO series replaced the LM series in 1928, but then the LO was succeeded at mid-year by the LP Series. Actually, the LO series was almost identical to the LM series, and can be considered a transitional vehicle. However, the LP series offered many mechanical improvements over previous truck models. There was a new 4-speed transmission as standard equipment (a lighter version of a 4-speed transmission was an option before) and mechanical 4-wheel brakes (LP is the first Chevrolet truck equipped with front brakes). The 4-cylinder engine developed 35 hp.
For consignment a barn find condition LP Chevrolet panel delivery truck. With additional added options of running boards, fenders, and a Chevrolet chassis on which is an all-steel body over a wooden frame. The seats and steering wheel are workable on the interior, however for the mechanicals they will need some wrenching and TLC.

Exterior
Patina panels showing surface rust, aged paint, and some missing add ons, it is all metal and mostly there. From its cowled radiator surround, to the flip up two sided hood, cab enclosure with doors, and a steel sided delivery area in nice condition, it has the beginnings of a restoration within reach, not too far gone. The fenders and running boards are intact as are the 30" steel disc wheels but is missing its bumpers front and rear, which seems out of place given the rest of the truck's condition.
Interior
A nice condition lower cushion is present for the driver's bucket seat, it is simply resting atop the fuel tank, and the upholstery remains in good condition in its black vinyl state. The second bucket seat, which is complete, resides on its mounting frame but moved into the storage area in the back. A large wood rimmed steering wheel fronts the original utilitarian dash showing a trio of inserts within the surface rusted metal dash front. Floors and door panels are made of wood, although the front flooring has been removed a long gear shift is present and rises up for the driver. Wood also lines the delivery box area and appears to be in good condition. Looking up we are viewing the wood lath roofing supports sans vinyl covering, and all glass is in and not cracked. We note that some of the wood framing structure has been replaced in various areas of the body.
Drivetrain
171 cubes showing up as an inline 4-cylinder in olive green is within the unrestored engine bay under the dual cowls. A 1-barrel carburetor is atop, and a 4-speed manual on the back of the engine which sends power back to a steep 5.43 geared rear axle. This power plant is not hooked up electrically, is missing wiring and parts of the fuel system, and cooling wise the hoses aren't present, so it is in not running or cranking condition.
Undercarriage
A strong metal frame with just slight surface rust supports the wood flooring of the delivery bed and the cross bracing for the running boards, as well as a structurally sound engine mounting. Heavy surface rust is seen on most parts, but no invasive damaging rust. This was the first year for front drum brakes, and these are mechanical brakes which are on all 4 corners. Leaf spring suspension is also seen throughout the bottom.
An open palette with workable but slightly rusted steel panels. Fenders and running boards, a wood roof, and mostly there interior, definitely offers the ability to bring her back and have a nice example of the LP series of a 1928 bowtie truck.\
